The DuPont Water & Protection is recruiting for a General Operator to join our dedicated team located at our manufacturing site in Midland, MI. We are looking for people who have a passion for delivering innovative, sustainable solutions that meet our customer needs for a better, healthier, safer life. Water & Protection is a leading provider of engineered products and integrated systems for the construction, worker safety, energy, oil & gas, transportation, water purification and medical markets.

As a General Operator you will provide leadership, operational expertise, technical, mechanical, and hands-on assistance for the safe operation and maintaining of reliable service for all processes and assets aligned to Midland Cation facility. Daily plant operations include rework of out of spec material, loading of copolymer from totes, packs, cartons or supersacks and unloading of bulk trucks.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Troubleshoot equipment, process and quality problems. Takes ownership of analysis of problem and ultimate resolution.

  • Provides leadership to effectively organize and execute shift activities to achieve plant goals

  • Able to effectively work with a wide range of people including other shifts, maintenance, project crafts, TICA engineers, technical support staff.

  • Prep and isolate equipment for maintenance. Completes Return to Operation checks. Write safe work permits.

  • Assure compliance with all EH&S requirements related to assigned roles per plant and site policies. 

  • Utilize electronic tools.

  • Follow applicable supporting work processes.

  • Demonstrate advanced troubleshooting skills and lead and/or participate in Root Cause Investigations.

  • Communicate role related information between shifts and day staff.

In addition, it will be your responsibility to:

  • Participate as a vital member of the team to ensure that all necessary tasks are safely completed

  • Follow all Plant, Department, and Division Safety policies; ask questions as appropriate to clarify any uncertainties.

  • Maintain proper communications with operators and plant leadership; utilize Logbook to communicate concerns, suggestions, operation status, troubleshooting activities and shift change notes for those areas which you have responsibility.

  • Participate in the maintenance process.

  • Take a vested interest in the future of the plant:  continuous improvement opportunities, safety suggestions, quality suggestions, cost management, variability reduction.

  • Conduct necessary housekeeping to keep the plant clean and safe.

  • Conduct all necessary safety, maintenance, and environmental checks.

  • Participate in job procedure development; follow defined operating procedures unless a safety concern is present.

  • Proactively address and eliminate safety concerns; participate in the behavior-based safety program.

  • Work with the technical staff to advance plant technology:  participate on teams, make suggestions, and provide constructive criticism.

Minimum Requirements:

  • HS Diploma, GED, or equivalent 

  • 2+ years of previous operating experience in a chemical process and/or advanced technical training in the area of chemical processing. 

  • Willing and able to work a rotating shift schedule.

Physical requirements of the job:  This job requires moderate physical capabilities.  Typical work includes: 

  • Climb stairs an average of 32 industrial flights over an 8-hour shift

  • Climb an 8-foot ladder or a fixed rung ladder >25 foot height to gain access to valves, tanks, vessels, etc. up to 50% of shift. 

  • Work with arms below, at and above shoulder level is done on an intermittent basis

  • Perform the job with a typical lift height of 48” <2 hours per day and frequently up to 60”-75”
