Job Description

The Maintenance Team Member is responsible for maintaining all production support equipment to ensure maximum availability and reliability, including various corrective and preventative maintenance activities on all equipment within the facility. The Maintenance Team Member focuses on ensuring efficient and safe operation of all equipment in accordance with team and facility Standard Operating Procedures. This position will perform various daily/weekly maintenance tasks, repairs, and special projects as assigned.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform general maintenance tasks and preventive maintenance tasks.
  • Perform duties on the daily and weekly maintenance lists and adhere to cleaning and maintenance schedules.
  • Keep department supplies stocked and maintained.
  • Understand basic functionality and operation of each piece of equipment in the facility.
  • Practice proper care and maintenance of equipment.
  • Assist with any cleaning emergencies that occur in the facility and ensure spill kits are maintained.
  • Assist the maintenance team in taking apart machines, equipment, or devices to remove and replace defective parts.
  • Routinely inspect the refrigeration and HVAC systems lines and filters.  
  • Visually examine facility for damage or wear and fix encountered problems.
  • Use common hand and power tools such as screwdrivers, saws, drills, wrenches, and hammers as well as specialized equipment and electronic testing devices.
  • Comply with all state and federal health and safety codes.
  • Follow established hazardous material safety procedures.
  • Adherence to Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) for equipment when maintaining or cleaning.
  • Communicate and maintain safety and security standards and follow all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) guidelines.
  • Attend all applicable equipment and certification training.  
  • Immediately report safety hazards and violations to facility leadership.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by facility leadership.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 1 year of maintenance experience in a warehouse, distribution center, or kitchen production facility environment.
  • Working knowledge of facility equipment including plumbing, HVAC, refrigeration, electrical, and mechanical systems.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in proper use of a dumpster, baler, box cutters, small power tools, hand tools (hammers, screwdrivers, painting equipment), and other related equipment.
  • Experience with precision measuring instruments or electronic testing devices preferred.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret repair manuals, parts catalogues, blueprints, technical procedures, safety rules, operation/maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Demonstrate responsibility and accountability in recognizing and accomplishing all tasks where there is a direct job responsibility.
  • High attention to detail and thoroughness in approach with all paperwork.
  • Ability to prioritize, make good decisions on when and how to repair various things, and multi-task.
  • Ability to work well with others, self-motivated, and capable of working independently with little supervision.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule based on the needs of the facility, including nights, weekends and holidays as required.


Physical Requirements / Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Must adhere to company dress code and standards of production kitchen dress and PPE (personal protective equipment).  
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job, with reasonable accommodation.
  • Hand use: single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling.
  • Work requires the following motions: bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching.
  • Exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals.
  • Exposure to temperatures: <32 degrees Fahrenheit (freezing), 32-40 degrees Fahrenheit (refrigerators), >90 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Ability to work in wet and dry conditions.
  • Ability to use tools and equipment, including knives, box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery.
  • May require use of ladders.

The wage range for this position is $17.50 - $23.25 Hourly, commensurate with experience. Whole Foods Market offers “Whole Benefits".
