Job Summary
The Feather System Operator will maintain a safe and productive operation of feather cooker. Operates cooking and processing equipment to produce feather meal products ready for grinding and for further refinement. Maintain proper cooking temperatures on all assigned equipment.
Second Shift: 3:00pm - 11:30pm; 5 days including some weekends.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities

- Perform start-up, operation, and shut down procedures for all processing equipment.
- Maintain clean, safe, and organized area.
- Monitor systems associated with processing operation such as but not limited to, condensers, air scrubbers, stabilization, system parameters, temperatures, pressures, motor loads, and steam recording charts.
- Record temperature and steam readings, cooking time, etc.
- Listen for malfunction alarms, and shutdown equipment and notify supervisors when necessary.
- Set temperature, pressure, and time controls, and start conveyors, machines, or pumps.
- Turn valves or start pumps to add ingredients or drain products from equipment and transfer products for storage, cooling, or further processing.
- Expected to perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Prior work experience involving mechanical aptitude/operating machinery in a manufacturing, industrial, or agricultural environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience controlling operations of equipment or systems.
- Ability to analyze situations and take corrective actions to run efficiently.
- Reading comprehension - understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents.
- Able to communicate with others effectively.
- Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, and other techniques for maximizing effective output.
Physical Demands
- Climbing stairs and standing the majority of the shift.
- Handle and move 55 gallon drums.
- Constantly required to walk, stand, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crawl, and crouch.
- Occasionally lift up to 25 lbs.
- Regularly required reach with hands and arms.
- Must be willing to work all shifts including over-time and weekends as needed.
Work Environment
Must be able to work in a hot or cold environment (100 degrees F to 45 degrees F); occasional outside work in all 4 seasons. Be able to handle odors associated with animal by-products.
