Collins Aerospace is currently seeking qualified candidates for an experienced systems or software engineer in our Military Avionics & Helicopters Flight Management Applications department located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to take on a Senior Engineer role and be a part of an Agile development team. The teams are comprised of cross-functional engineers working in an Agile environment (approximately 6-10 people) focused on the design and development of avionics software products. Product Summary:

CAAS/Flight 2 Flight Management Solutions - Our signature products for Military Avionics and Helicopters as part of the Collins Integrated Avionics Systems, fielded on thousands of aircraft today.

What YOU will do:

  • You will be part of an Agile scrum team

  • You will lead the design, development, testing, and maintenance of flight-critical embedded software for military avionics flight management Systems

  • You will lead an engineering team by organizing tasks, coordinating team efforts, asking questions, communicating status, raising issues, brainstorming ideas, helping others, practicing active listening, and promoting a collaborative environment.

  • You will learn all phases of the software product life cycle from requirements through to verification, while employing the company software engineering processes to produce high quality products.

Education and Experience Needed:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience.

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Skills You Must Have:

  • Avionics or software development/testing experience.

  • Experience working in an Agile Development Environment.

  • Effective oral/written communication skills.

  • Effective leadership, interpersonal, and team skills.

  • Effective time management and organizational skills.

Skills We Value:

  • Coding experience in Ada, C/C++, or Python.

  • Requirement management tools: DOORS or JAMA.

  • Atlassian Suite knowledge (JIRA and Confluence in particular).

  • Experience with DO-178B/C.

  • Experience with configuration control of documentation, test artifacts and environment setups.

  • Risk identification and management.
