Environmental Science/Geographic Information System (GIS) Intern

Responsibilities
At Noblis, our Resilience and Sustainability team is dedicated to addressing our planet’s biggest environmental challenges, including climate change. We are seeking a professional to join our sustainability team supporting Federal government customers. Our sustainability team conducts analyses that support the development of environmental research in areas such as climate resilience, resource conservation, energy and water, environmental restoration, and munitions response and provides sustainability subject matter expertise in support of sustainability initiatives across the United States Government.
During the internship, tasks will include:
- Using ArcGIS and other environmental data visualization software to create interactive maps;
- Engage independently in activities such as research, data gathering, data manipulation and interpretation;
- Consolidate findings and identify key themes from gathered data and analysis;
- Meeting with clients to present findings;
- Research and evaluate past environmental research investments;
- Support development of communication materials (e.g., reports, slide decks) tailored to various audiences to describe and summarize results of research and data analysis.
What skills can the intern expect to develop by supporting this project?
- Strong data analysis and visualization skills in Excel, Tableau, and/or R;
- Strong skills using GIS Software e.g. ArcGIS Pro and/or ArcGIS Online;
- Ability to conduct quality assurance on environmental data sets and work products;
- Effective collaboration with internal and external clients to meet evolving needs;
- Presentation and writing skills;
- Grow knowledge of Federal government sustainability initiatives.

Required Qualifications
- GPA of 3.3 or higher
- S. Citizenship
- Undergraduate rising senior or graduate student pursuing an Engineering, Science, Architecture, Industrial Ecology or Policy degree with environmental or sustainability focus (e.g., Environmental Engineering or Science, Environmental Management or Policy)
- Excellent communication, written, and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and collaboratively in a team-focused group
- Works well in a geographically diverse team environment
Desired Qualifications
- Good data analysis skills and experience with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and other tools (e.g., R, Python, LCA software).
- Knowledge of sustainable procurement policies, high-performance building standards, circular economy, waste management and recycling practices, and/or ESG frameworks
- Experience developing LCAs, applying and/or using 3rd party standards and ecolabels, and/or analyzing supply chains
- Knowledge of United States Federal Agencies
