Raytheon provides end-to-end space solutions – from ground control systems to on-orbit sensors – to keep our customers informed and ahead of the threat. Each day, ground stations receive vast amounts of data from satellites in orbit. Using complex algorithms, they process all of the bits and bytes received and turn them into useable information for the end users who consume this data. As the volume of data grows, ground stations need to evolve and adapt. In this role you will work onsite with a team of skilled Software Engineers developing Satellite Ground Stations Software in Java and C++.
Raytheon is hiring a hands-on Senior Principal Software Lead to support our teams in Aurora, CO. You will have the opportunity to directly impact the world around you and contribute to programs and technologies you are passionate about. This is meant for an engineer with experience developing software that also is interested in leading engineers through their career development. Also, the successful engineer will need to tackle some responsibilities working with customers and DevSecOps responsibilities to ensure seamless and timely delivery of software deliverables.
What You Will Do
- Lead a team of engineers and have one on one discussions with them and perform mid-year/end of year evaluations
- Identify and understand customer needs and apply sound, demonstrable understanding of features supported by backend and UI capabilities.
- Demonstrate critical thinking skills with the ability to communicate concepts and ideas well.
- Design backend and UI software solutions
- Aid in deployment processes to ensure seamless and timely deliveries
- Use proven problem solving and analytical skills.
- Develop and maintain Java, C++, and Python based backend applications for satellite ground systems.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and implement robust server-side solutions.
- Modify and improve existing codebases for enhanced performance and scalability.
- Conduct software design and code reviews, integrating best practices and innovations.
- Contribute to all phases of the software development lifecycle, ensuring adherence to Agile principles.
- Participate in system integration and project milestone completion under guidance from supervisors.
- Keep abreast of advancements in Java and related technologies to drive continuous innovation.
Qualifications You Must Have
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 10 years of Software Engineering experience.
- Experience with Java and C++ software development in a Linux environment.
Qualifications We Prefer
- Experience leading teams.
- Experience in a manager role.
- Experience with Python.
- Experience working with the Atlassian Tool suite.
- Experience developing software in an Agile and/or DevOps environments.
- Previous experience with satellite GPS software.
- Experience troubleshooting or debugging software.
- Experience with unit and automated functional test concepts.
- Experience with some area of satellite ground system software such as mission management, planning and scheduling, command and telemetry, satellite operations, or flight dynamics models.
