Do you have experience with operating heavy construction equipment? Spend your days maintaining, repairing, and installing various potable and reclaimed water distribution throughout Sarasota County. Apply today and join this growing department and see your direct impact on the community!- Transport, operate, and maintain heavy equipment, vehicles, and machines such as backhoes, walking excavators, front-end loaders, dump trucks, boom trucks, sewer vacuuming and flushing trucks and equipment, sewer TV trucks, water transport, delivery trucks, and other related equipment and machines used in the construction, maintenance and storm water conveyance systems and their appurtenances.
- Perform manual labor tasks related to stormwater conveyance system maintenance and repair as required.
- Perform roadway and right-of-way restoration relating to completed utility maintenance and repairs.
- Maintain equipment and vehicles as assigned.
- Complete and submit work orders relating to all work performed in a professional and timely fashion.
- Respond to emergency situations as required
Work Hours:
- 40 Hours Per Week
- Tuesday- Friday
- 6:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
- *On-Call Required.
About You
Minimum Qualifications:
- A High School Diploma or its equivalent.
- Two (2) years of experience in the operation and maintenance of one or more pieces of the equipment described herein.
- A valid Florida Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Tanker endorsements or the ability to obtain within six months from the date of hire. (Paid for by the county!)
Physical Demands:
May occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds.

Subject to Passing Substance Screening: This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five (5) years.
About Everything Else
Starting Pay: $21.54 (Step 1)
Potential higher pay (steps) for those with multiple years of experience.
