The Strategic Defense Solutions Software Center is seeking a Section Leader/Senior Manager to lead a software team supporting proprietary software programs.
Our organization is part of Collins Aerospace, an RTX business, with a vision to be defense industry leaders in combined JADC2-enabled battlespace. The candidate will have the opportunity to leverage industry best practice Digital Engineering product development lifecycles and lead a team of software engineers to provide our warfighters with CJADC2 technologies and solutions, starting with Advanced. Field Artillery Tactical Data System (AFATDS) to provide fully automated support for planning, coordinating, controlling and executing fires and effects, including mortars, field artillery cannons, rockets and missiles, close air support, attack aviation and Naval surface fire-support systems.
The candidate will be expected to work with engineers, customers, and leadership to turn ideas into reality and to help carry the future of the Converged Solutions into a sustainable value stream. The manager is responsible for tactical execution of programs, performance management, employee development, talent acquisition/retention, and strategic support of the business.
What you will do:
- The Section Leader performs management activities and provides leadership for approximately 10-15 software engineers. These activities include technical development of people, providing and identifying appropriate training for people, assigning people to projects, compensation planning, and performance management.
- You will team with the Department Leader in the rollout and adherence to organizational policies, goals, and initiatives.
- The candidate will collaborate across programs and engineering teams to identify efficiencies, share resources, and support the development of best practices, necessitating an ability to clearly communicate objectives and status to audiences with varying degrees of understanding of the products and technology.
- The candidate will be required to understand and manage both customer and IR&D funded projects.
- Technical Management – drive success in development of AFATDS and related future business opportunities in the CJADC2 space.
- Project Management - candidate must be able to guide team members on the management of scope, schedule, and budget for engineering design activities; candidate will be directly involved in project management and execution, including Earned Value and Risk Management.
- Decision Making - The candidate must demonstrate sound decision-making skills, strategic thinking, networking skills, and the ability to accurately forecast resource needs.
- Personnel Administration - candidates must be able to perform hiring, performance assessment, management of personnel issues, and create an engaged and motivated team.
- Present staffing plans and software execution plans to program leadership.
- Technical Leadership of a software team, ownership of software product providing innovative solutions that meets or exceeds customer expectations.
Qualifications You Must Have:
- Experience working with I/AFATDS for DoD and or international customers.
- Technical credibility or domain knowledge in two or more of the following areas: Battle Management, COA analysis, variable message format (VMF), “K-series” messages, Joint or Coalition interoperability, Long-Range Precision Fires, Extended Range Cannon Artillery, Extended Range Guided Multiple Launch Rocket Systems, Projectile Tracking Systems, Fire Direction Centers, Common Operational Picture, meteorology (MET), or target acquisition.
- Demonstrated experience applying effective leadership and collaborating effectively to building partnerships with others inside and out
