Position Purpose: Works under minimal supervision to plan, direct and coordinate activities of large, long-term, inter-departmental infrastructure or development project(s) to ensure goals and objectives of the project(s) are accomplished within prescribed timeframe and budgetary parameters. Generally, responsible for project(s) with significant financial or business transformative impact to multiple areas, working with a large cross functional project team, with a long-term duration (typically one year or greater). Applies critical thinking skills to encapsulate all components of a project using a disciplined process of actively and skillfully conceptualizing, applying, analyzing, and/or evaluating information gathered or generated by observation, experience, reflection, reasoning, or communication, as a guide to action. The scope of the IS Senior Project Manager is generally focused within a portfolio or domain, and operates at a high level of complexity, risk and impact to the overall organization.

Responsibilities:

Communication and Presentation

  • Keeps stakeholders, including management, informed of progress to goal; negotiate adjustments to the schedule and resources to ensure overall quality of completed project
  • Functions as central point for all project communications
  • Leverages most effective means of communication based on situation/urgency
  • Develops and delivers presentation content to drive understanding and alignment across Team and Project Sponsors (Governance structure)


Establishes Effective Project Governance

  • Identifies and facilitates acquiring a Sponsor role that is executed at the appropriate level of the organization
  • Identifies and facilitates acquiring a Steering Group that is supporting/influencing the Sponsor while representing cross-functional perspective with common project goals
  • Identifies and facilitates acquiring a Stakeholder Group that represents and can influence project direction and deliverables


Vendor Management

  • Collaborates to develop a positive relationship between L.L.Bean and vendor(s) to ensure successful project deliverables.
  • Negotiates contracts and Non-Disclosure Agreements with vendors and monitors project deliverables. Transitions vendor contracts to internal support owner to ensure understanding and compliance with service level agreements.
  • Tracks and maintains vendor deliverable costs


Management Responsibility

  • May assume people management responsibilities and/or provide coaching and mentoring to subordinate group through assignments, directs training, and regular feedback.
  • Establishes performance objectives; appraises and rewards performance.


Risk Management

  • Identifies & analyzes project risks to determine highest potential risk exposure that should be proactively managed
  • Identifies & focuses resolution of issues and risks using appropriate levels of escalation considering impact to scope, schedule, budget or quality.


Project Detail and Schedules

  • Develops a project work breakdown structure
  • Develops and manages a project schedule/timeline using approved Project Management tools (Clarity, Open Workbench, MS Project, etc.)
  • Develops, monitors, and manages the project staffing plan and resource allocations approved by resource managers
  • Determines Resource Assignments with task estimates (ETC's)
  • Use negotiation skills to balance completing work with resources needed to achieve project success


Project Team Management

  • Establishes clear project roles and responsibilities
  • Manages and focuses appropriate levels of decision making and accountability across the project team and governance structure
  • Guides, motivates and focuses the team on a common set of project goals and expectations
  • Identifies and plans around organizational impacts or cultural barriers
  • Appropriately recognizes and rewards project team
  • Provides constructive, timely feedback to correct course
  • Demonstrates an understanding of business area or technology to effectively facilitate and guide team
  • Coaches IS Project Managers in the application of best practices. Act and perform as department role model in the Project Management discipline.
