IMEG is hiring an Electrical Engineering Intern in Germantown, MD to support the engineering analysis, design, and implementation oversight of electrical systems in buildings. Over 10-12 weeks, you'll assist with real project work alongside experienced engineers and consultants in a paid, mentored internship.
In this role, you'll support project documentation, multidisciplinary coordination, and periodic job site observations while working within project budgets and client expectations. You'll contribute to work serving government/municipal and science & technology markets, advancing high-performance, energy-efficient design aligned with MEP2050 and AIA2030.

What You'll Do
- Assist with electrical design tasks for projects in accordance with code and IMEG standards.
- Assist with researching commercially available equipment and related resources.
- Assist with maintaining client relations, project design notebooks, and permanent record documentation.
- Assist with coordinating design and schedule needs with architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, technology, clerical, and equipment supplier teams.
- Assist with documenting design decisions, meetings, and client instructions while monitoring design progress.
- Assist with reviewing project documents for accuracy and completeness before final check.
- Assist with preparing and issuing addendum information.
- Conduct periodic job site observations and perform other services required by the contract services agreement.
What You'll Bring
Required Education
- Completed at least 2 years towards a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent required
Required Skills/Abilities
- Strong interest in design consulting
- Previous exposure to CAD and/or BIM software
- Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
Preferred
- Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred

- Support mission-critical federal, healthcare, research, laboratory, and secure facility projects where reliability, redundancy, and safety directly support the client's mission.
- Work on technically challenging projects for major clients and agencies, including NIH, NIST, NAVFAC, USACE, University of Maryland, Morgan State University, and private-sector research clients.
- Collaborate with a seasoned multidisciplinary group of Professional Engineers, LEED Accredited Professionals, energy modeling experts, CFD specialists, lighting designers, commissioning professionals, and healthcare facility design experts.

State of Maryland Pay Range: $22.00–$24.00 per hour
