What you will do:
- Administers risk management program in the Office of the General Counsel.
- Reviews incoming notices of intent/complaints/litigation-related correspondence.
- Assigns notices of intent and complaints to appropriate regional/hospital counsel.
- Prepares Litigation holds and coordinates with staff and outside counsel to answer discovery requests for matters out of Headquarters.
- Works with Division of Risk Management to discuss risk cases, assign, counsel, and review policy coverage.
- Responds to inquiries on certificates of coverage and insurer’s liability disclosures (civil rights, general liability, auto liability).
- Supports regional counsel with discovery and documents or data located at Headquarters.
- Teleconferences with regional counsel to discuss pending cases and updates and receive new case information.
- Reviews outside counsel case reports and recommendations.
- Consults with outside counsel, hospital counsel, and regional counsel regarding litigation strategy.
- Attends mediation for matters within Headquarters or in place of regional counsel, as needed.
- Works with other attorneys in the Office of General Counsel regarding public records requests involving risk matters.
- Works with other attorneys in the Office of General Counsel on matters related to risk cases involving food stamps/denial of benefits/Medicaid/Access issues/mental health/substance abuse services.
- Works closely with risk adjusters and Department of Financial Services to settle cases in most cost-effective manner to the State.
- Prepares settlement authority reports on risk cases for management (General Counsel and Deputy General Counsel).
- Maintains risk files with confidential information, tracks mediation, trial dates, and time-sensitive deadlines.
- Manages weekly litigation report, including tracking information
