Cleveland Clinic’s G90 Urology Medical/Surgical Unit is dedicated to the care of post-operative urology and overflow surgical patients and focuses on pain control, return of bowel and bladder function, DVT prevention and ambulation. Patients in this unit range in age from young adult to geriatric, however, the most common patient population is approximately 65 years old. Some of the primary procedures performed on this unit include partial nephrectomy, radical nephrectomy, radical prostatectomy, urolithiasis, and cystectomy with continent/incontinent urinary diversion.
A caregiver in this position works days, 7:00am – 7:30pm.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Collect, document and report patient data and observations.
Implement care plans as directed by an RN and contribute to care plan revisions.
Administer medications and/or treatments authorized by a provider and observe patients for adverse reactions.
Perform routine laboratory tests.
Educate patients and family members.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Graduate of an accredited practical or vocational nursing program
Current Ohio license as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
One year of patient care experience
Physical Requirements:
Requires frequent walking from department to department; requires sitting at a workstation or desk; requires standing; work may include occasional pushing and/or pulling, lifting, and carrying objects weighing up to 50 lbs., such as files, documents and computer printouts.
Work requires finger dexterity and eye/hand coordination to operate a computer keyboard at a moderate skill level.
