Duke School of Medicine’s interdisciplinary Duke Molecular Physiology Institute (DMPI), is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow with a PhD in computational biology, genomics, computer science, bioinformatics, or a related discipline. The successful candidate will lead computational research projects applying advanced statistical, machine learning, and artificial intelligence approaches to large-scale genomic, single-cell, and multi-omics datasets. This is a computational-only position; no wet lab responsibilities are expected.

Responsibilities:

  • Use applied computational methods for the analysis of genomic, single-cell, and/or other high-dimensional biological datasets.
  • Integrate multi-omics data (e.g., genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics) to identify novel biological insights relevant to human disease.
  • Employ AI and machine learning approaches for predictive modeling, clustering, and feature discovery.
  • Collaborate with experimental and clinical scientists to design, interpret, and translate computational findings.
  • Prepare manuscripts, present findings at national and international conferences, and contribute to grant applications.
  • Mentor graduate students, medical trainees, or junior team members in computational approaches.

Qualifications:

  • PhD in computational biology, genetics/genomics, computer science, bioinformatics, statistics, or a related quantitative field.
  • Strong programming skills in languages such as Python and/or R; experience with high-performance computing environments is a plus.
  • Demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following areas: machine learning/AI, single-cell analysis, statistical genomics, or multi-omics integration.
  • Strong publication record in relevant fields.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Familiarity with large biobank or population genomics datasets (optional).

Environment and Opportunities:
The Postdoctoral Fellow will join a vibrant interdisciplinary research environment with opportunities for collaboration across computational, clinical, and translational research groups. The laboratory is a robust, multi-disciplinary academic translational research laboratory composed of PhD computational staff scientists and trainees focused on understanding biomarkers and biology of cardiovascular disease. The postdoctoral fellow will be co-mentored by mentors with expertise in clinical cardiology, data science, biostatistics, human genetics and clinical and translational research.
