Our Institution: Founded in 1860, Bard College is an international network of highly innovative and admired educational institutions grounded in the liberal arts and sciences. A division of Bard located in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, Bard College at Simons Rock is the only four-year college in the U.S. specifically designed for motivated adolescents to fully realize their academic potential by beginning college immediately after the 10th or 11th grade. BA and AA degrees are granted in over 35 areas of study. Simons Rock attracts a diverse student population of approximately 400 students, drawn nationally and internationally, with a significant population of students identifying as LGBTQIA .

 

For over 50 years, Simons Rock has practiced the simple yet radical idea that many students are ready for college before the age of 18, an idea that launched the Early College movement in the United States and beyond. In 2015, Simons Rock launched Bard Academy, a two-year high school program for boarding and day students, with courses designed and taught by college professors and leading to entry into college after the tenth grade. In doing so, Simons Rock has connected high school and college in one cohesive, coherent six-year arc. In 2019, Simons Rock established the Early College Research Institute (ECRI), a locus for research into whats nextin Early College. In 2023, Simons Rock launched the Bard Queer Leadership Project, a B.A. degree program designed for, and by, LGBTQIA college students, aiming to elevate LGBTQIA college graduates into leadership roles in fields across the workforce.

 

The Role: At Bard Academy and Bard College at Simons Rock, we seek a dynamic and community focused Director of Community Success (DOCS). The Director of Community Success will work closely with the Dean of Students and Equitable Community to foster a sense of inclusivity across campus. The DOCS is responsible for working with faculty, staff, and students to develop ongoing training around inclusivity, cultural competence, and facilitate ongoing discussions around issues of social justice, equity, and change. The DOCS will coordinate events with the Council for Inclusive Community, and engage in ongoing assessment of the campus culture.

 

Position Responsibilities

  • Reports to Dean of Students and Equitable Community (DOSEC)
  • Be a strong presence in the campus community
  • Attend staff governance meetings, particularly Staff Assembly
  • Oversight of Council for Inclusive Community
  • Coordinates planning of the Symposium on Social Justice and Inclusion, Pride Week, and the Annual Dubois Celebration with CIC and DOSEC
  • Offer semesterly trainings coordinated with DOSEC
  • Works directly with student affinity groups in advisory capacity (when possible)
  • Serve on Bias Response Team when DOSEC is unavailable
  • Work with DOSEC to implement Equity and Inclusion strategic plan
  • Develop strategies for program evaluation
  • Serve on institutional search committees and host DEI interviews for search committees
  • Oversee work orders and maintenance request for the Center for Equity, Inclusion, and Community (CEIC)
  • Oversee space Reservations for the CEIC
  • May require some weekend and evening commitments 
  • Other duties as assigned
