Extension Assistant/Associate Professor or Professional Practice Extension Assistant Professor Home and Community Department

Overview

Utah State University Extension invites applications for a County Extension faculty position in the Home and Community Department. This is a 12-month, fiscal-year appointment, tenure track Extension Assistant/Associate Professor or non-tenure track Professional Practice Extension Assistant Professor Position. Extension faculty develop, implement, evaluate, and coordinate research-based educational programs to enhance quality of life for youth and adults. Extension faculty also recruit, train, and supervise volunteer leaders and serve as a liaison between local clientele, other resource agencies, and Utah State University administrators, faculty, and programs. This Extension position includes university responsibilities and is based in Uintah County. 

 

An office will be provided at the USU Extension office in Vernal, Utah. 

 

Rank will be commensurate with experience, qualifications and current rank. Appointment opportunities include Extension Assistant or Associate Professor (tenure track), or Professional Practice Extension Assistant Professor (non-tenure track). A Master's degree is required for Extension Assistant or Associate ranks. A Bachelor's degree and substantial professional experience is required for the Professional Practice Extension Assistant Professor

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership to Extension activities in the Home and Community field
• Conduct a community needs assessment to adapt and bring in programming needed to serve the community 
• Develop, implement, and evaluate programs for adults and youth
• Develop partnerships and employ innovative approaches to reach clientele and new audiences 
• Pursue internal and external funding to support Extension programming
• Document impacts and produce scholarly publications based on Extension Programming
• Manage budgets, personnel, and volunteers
• Serve diverse audiences and support the civil rights mandate of Utah State University Extension
• Serve and collaborate with other Extension County faculty and specialists, University personnel, community and government agencies, and stakeholders. 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

• An earned master's degree (tenure track) or bachelor’s degree with significant experience related to the position (professional practice) in a discipline such as:
  • Family and consumer sciences
  • Public health
  • Nutrition
  • Food sciences
  • Social work
  • Mental health
  • Psychology
  • Finance
  • Business
  • Human development
  • Family studies
  • Health and wellness
• Experience in teaching to adult and/or youth audiences
• Excellent oral and written English communication skills
• Must have access to reliable transportation to and from work site

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with program development and/or delivery related to area of expertise, as listed above or similar
• Ability to use various technology platforms for the creation and dissemination of educational webinars, on-line classes, and educational video productions 
• Ability to implement applied research and evidence-based activities
• Experience with grant, professional, and scientific writing and grant management
• Experience recruiting, supervising, and working with staff and volunteers
• Experience working with diverse, low income, rural, and under-served audiences
• Experience with marketing and community engagement via social media.
• Experience in public speaking and presenting
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member
• Ability to communicate effectively in English and Spanish (Bilingual)
