The Opportunity

We are looking for a strategic HR Benefits and Payroll expert to lead Payroll and Benefits operations in Canada, across multiple states in the USA, and internationally. The ideal candidate will have had significant experience running payroll systems and would require a pragmatic, analytical, mindset.  The Director of Global Payroll and Benefits would effectively design, implement, and manage employee benefits programs across multiple countries. This role requires a strong foundation in benefits and human resources, as well as an understanding of different cultures, laws, and business practices around the world.  Lastly, this role would oversee the implementation of a global HRIS and would be responsible for the day-to-day management, governance and strategic utilization of the platform to ensure compliance, data protection, and optimization of data, analytics, and reporting, at scale.

What You’ll Do

Payroll Deliverables:

  • Develop and execute the HR and Payroll function's vision, strategy, and mission, aligned with the company's strategic objectives
  • Oversee HR and Payroll operations, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with applicable laws and regulations
  • Represent HR and Payroll for all technology enhancements and implementations with potential impact on employee or candidate experience across the company
  • Lead efforts to harmonize payroll service delivery across the globe and oversee regional efforts towards global process efficiency, effectiveness and standardization while allowing for local flexibility
  • Identify and mitigate potential payroll-related risks and implement controls to prevent errors, fraud, or compliance violations
  • Keep up to date on required regulatory/compliance requirements and ensure compliance with corporate and country specific policies and procedures
  • Establish and standardize global HR and Payroll policies, processes, and procedures while accommodating regional variations and legal requirements
  • Establish strong protocols for timely and accurate processing of all payroll transactions, and define payroll quality controls and audit methodology for delivery teams; lead programs to align current activities to these standards
  • Ensure the confidentiality and security of HR and Payroll data, adhering to data privacy regulations and safeguarding sensitive employee information
  • Collaborate with the Finance, People and Legal teams to support the company's global expansion efforts by providing HR and Payroll expertise and coordinating HR and Payroll setup in new regions
  • Partner closely with internal stakeholders in Finance, Tax, Total Rewards, Executive Comp and Legal to ensure that payroll processes and practices are set up to deliver against defined procedures, guidelines, legal requirements and in compliance with local laws and regulations
  • Provide regular HR and Payroll-related reports, metrics, and insights to senior management, supporting decision-making and strategic planning

Benefits Deliverables:

  • In-depth knowledge of various types of employee benefits (health insurance, retirement plans, wellness programs, etc.)
  • Understanding of global compensation strategies and structures
  • Familiarity with employment laws and regulations in different countries, including tax implications and mandatory benefits
  • Keeping up-to-date with changes in legislation that affect employee benefits globally
  • Ability to align benefits strategies with overall business goals and objectives
  • Skills in developing benefits programs that support talent attraction, retention, and engagement
  • Proficiency in clearly and effectively communicating complex benefits information to a diverse workforce
  • Ability to analyze data and metrics to assess the effectiveness
