Position Overview

Intern will be educated, trained, and exposed to the day-to-day functions of the estimating department in the milling and paving line of business of the Company under the close direction of an experienced supervisor/manager. Work assignments and on-the-job experience will be relevant to the Intern’s course of study or technical skill.

 

Roles and Responsibilities

Complies with all safety, health, environmental & training policies, procedures, and requirements.  Wear a hardhat, safety glasses, steel-toed footwear, gloves, hearing protection and respirator as needed.
  • Examine documents, plans, materials, or products and monitor work processes to assess completeness, accuracy and conformance to standards and specification
  • Review documents/plans, such as work-orders, contract/bids, cost projections, etc to determine material requirements and material priorities
  • Confer with department supervisors/foremen to assess progress and discuss the needed changes
  • Review production/construction schedules and cost projections when required due to design changes, labor or material backlogs or other interruptions, collaborating with management, sales, production or engineering
  • Confer with establishment personnel, vendors, or customer to coordinate production/construction or shipping activities and to resolve complaints or eliminate delays
  • Calculate figures, such as required amounts of material and/or labor, construction cost, equipment usage, fuel and other costs per job/contract
  • Regular and predictable attendance at assigned times is required.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.
  • Assists other departments as requested or assigned

 

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. 

Education/Experience

  • Student at a college, university, or technical school.
