Job Summary:

Location: Methodist Hospital
Address: 8303 Dodge St, Omaha, NE

Work Schedule: 6:45pm to 7:15am, 1-2 shifts per week

Functions as a clinical and technical resource for Centralized Telemetry staff on duty. Serves as first point of contact for issues requiring escalation during their shift. Supports the development, maintenance, and coordination of programs, policies, education, compliance, and performance improvement related to Centralized Telemetry. Reports to the Telemetry Unit Manager.

Responsibilities:

Essential Functions

Serve as Cardiac Monitor Specialist

  • Collaborates with nursing staff and providers in providing cardiac care via remote monitoring

  • Continuously monitor patient heart rhythms and vital signs from the Centralized Telemetry Unit (CTU)

  • Responds to all telemetry alarms

  • Recognizes pertinent cardiac arrhythmias, documents action taken

  • Records appropriate measurements and rhythm interpretation on telemetry strips

  • Uploads telemetry rhythm strips into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).

  • Reports/escalates significant events.

  • Recognizes potential issues (low batteries, lead off), reports to appropriate staff, and documents resolution in EMR.

  • Collaborates with nursing staff to minimize excessive alarms, and documents parameter changes in EMR.

  • Report telemetry process or CTU trends to CTU Manager.

  • Comply with all departmental and organizational policies, procedures, and guidelines and participate in corporate/departmental safety and quality activities.

Assist Centralized Telemetry leadership with employee relations/development.

  • Participate in orientation, counseling and evaluation.

  • Monitor employee clinical education and competency.

  • Assist in disciplinary action; observe, document, report

  • Provide direct and immediate employee feedback

  • Coach employees on best practices

Provide operational support and oversight for Centralized Telemetry Unit.

  • Clinical and technical telemetry subject matter expert for staff on-duty.

    • Initial point of contact for troubleshooting equipment, network issues, clinical issues, and downtime

  • Ensure patient care assignments are based on patient needs and staff competency, and telemetry census

  • Assist with ensuring that appropriate numbers of competent staff are available to meet patient care needs.

    • Assume primary responsibility for staffing issues; escalate to CTU Manager, as indicated

    • Coordinate meal breaks to maximize efficiency and telemetry coverage

  • Mediate intra- and inter-departmental disputes; escalate as necessary

  • Participate in departmental goal planning: development, implementation, evaluation, reporting, revision

  • Delegate tasks, as needed

  • Ensure compliance with all departmental and organizational policies, procedures, and guidelines and participate in corporate/departmental safety and quality activities.

  • Assist with development, implementation, and evaluation of policy and procedures in accordance with current internal and external standards.

Schedule:

6:45pm to 7:15am, 1 shift per week

Job Description:

Job Requirements

Education

  • Associate of Science degree in health care or management related field preferred.


Experience

  • Minimum of 18 months current cardiac telemetry experience required.

  • Advanced arrhythmia recognition and basic 12 lead EKG interpretations required.

  • Leadership and/or training experience preferred.


License/Certifications

  • Certification and registry in electrocardio
