Job Description
Be a part of a world-class academic health-care system at UChicago Medicine as a Physical Security Manager in the Security Department.
The Manager – Physical Security is responsible for the design, operation, maintenance and testing of security management systems and applications designed to maintain a secure environment for patients, visitors, staff and protect the property and assets of the University of Chicago Medical Center (UCMC) campus, UCMC offsite facilities and clinics, and Community Hospital and Healthcare Division (CHHD) facilities, including Ingalls. This includes, but not limited to, access control, video surveillance, video storage, duress alarms, infant security, visitor management, incident reporting, guard tour, communication systems, and dispatch centers. Annually manages development, coordination and execution of approximately 15 new security system projects valued between 3 and 6 million dollars from inception to close out consistent with UCMC policies and procedures. Directs and coordinates all UCMC staff and contractors who are responsible for all phases of project management for security system projects. Serves as a technical resource to UCMC and BSD project managers on design and installation of security management systems at renovated and new facilities. Manages day-to-day activities of Security Specialist(s). The Manager is also responsible for overseeing and coordinating all service orders performed by contractor(s) and the installation of new applications and equipment.
Essential Job Functions
- Manage and maintain security management systems, applications and support the operation of the hardware, software and network interfaces associated with information technology systems
- Manage security management system(s) service providers responsible for system maintenance, testing, repairs and installation of new applications and equipment.
- Coordinate service orders and work performed by contractor(s) to maintain security management systems and ensure proper closure of service orders.
- Review departmental request for physical security measures and provide recommendations.
- Manage the access control and visitor management systems to ensure appropriate levels of access for staff, residents, contractors and visitors are maintained for buildings, departments and sensitive areas.
- Directs and coordinates all functions of the Project Manager(s) assigned to the Public Safety Department Facilities Planning, Design and Construction (FPD&C) Department.
- Manages Security System Specialist(s) who is responsible for day-to-day operational activities associated with access control and video surveillance activities.
Required Qualifications
- Five years of work experience designing, implementing and managing security management systems or other relevant information technology system applications.
- Understanding of typical security system software, hardware, system networking, equipment, and establishing system design standards.
- Experience with proprietary and non-proprietary systems and creating solutions for security risks and concerns.
- Experience managing contractors and sub-contractors to specific contractual requirements and to fixed budgets.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to speak articulately in high-level forums and to answer difficult questions with confidence.
- Ability to work independently identifying best approaches to problems/questions and present solutions to Director or other Leadership.
- Prior experience managing multiple projects simultaneously and working effectively in multidisciplinary groups.
- High degree of computer competency, including familiarity with word processing, spreadsheet, and schedule programs.
- Working knowledge of construction requirements in hospital, research, educational laboratories, or other sensitive commercial or industrial areas.
Preferred
- Experience with eBuilder Project Management Software
- Experience managing projects in a Hospital environment including Infection Control protocols and mitigation strategies.
