As a t-shaped data engineer you will specify, design, engineer, test, deliver, deploy, maintain and support data (driven) solutions for HR. What makes the job great is that you will be part of a team that is responsible for all HR data and decision support based on this data. This will put you in the center of the organisation and provide you with the opportunity to truly make an impact!

Where do you land?

You will be working in the Data & Technology business platform "People, Technology & Intelligence" (Human Resources). As the senior data engineer in the product team you will work from our head office in Amstelveen (next to that we are working from home part of the time). As a team, of around 10 people, you will work closely with business and the other teams in the platform. In the team you will work together with 2-3 other data engineers who, with your direction and coaching, will take both our product and themselves to a higher level.  
 
We use technologies such as Scala, Spark and Python to store data in the HR data lake (HDFS). From there, the data is powering our data science engines and dashboards. Data is retrieved from various sources using APIs, (FTP) downloads and other data integrations. Many of the HR applications run on SAP (both in cloud and on premise). Important to us are data quality, compliancy and security, among other things. One of our ambitions is to (further) modernize and improve the HR data landscape. As part of this, and to leverage the latest technologies, we are moving to Google Cloud (GCP). 

Your profile

You like to work with data and have a passion for coding. With your knowledge about software engineering, software architecture and technologies & methodologies you focus on building high quality applications that are maintainable, performant, and secure. You are a colleague that is great, and fun, to work with. You have strong communication skills and you like to work in an international environment with lots of cultural diversity. You are result driven, customer oriented and flexible to change. Although it would be great if you have all the technical skills mentioned below, we find it more important that you are pro-active, that you are are both a good coach and a good learner and an enthusiast for modern technology.
 
Furthermore, you

• know ETL pipeline development using Scala, Spark, Python, HDFS and API calls;
• know your way in Linux;
• have knowledge of modern software engineering practices (clean code, design patterns);
• know both SQL and no-SQL databases such as Google BigQuery, PostgreSQL and MongoDB;
• know integration patterns such as SOA, request/reply (RESTful API's) and event driven architecture (JMS/Kafka);
• know cloud technologies and DevOps (git, CI/CD, Azure, GCP, Kubernetes, Docker, Tomcat);
• have in-depth knowledge and experience in the agile way of working (SAFe, Scrum, Kanban);
• know about other technologies such as SAP (SAP BW) and PowerBI;
• are fluent in English (Dutch is a plus).
