Associate or Senior Editor, Nature Nanotechnology

Location(s): New York or Jersey City – Hybrid working model

Application Deadline: April 15th 2024

Nature Nanotechnology — a prestigious international monthly journal covering all areas of nanoscience and technology — seeks to appoint an Associate or Senior Editor to cover the broad scientific field of energy materials and devices.

Do you love science but feel that a research career isn’t enough to sate your desire to learn more about the natural and technological world? Do you enjoy reading papers and keeping up to date with developments outside your chosen area of research? If the answer is ‘yes’, you could be the person we’re looking for to join the editorial team of Nature Nanotechnology.

We particularly welcome applications from chemists or materials scientists with expertise in solid-state chemistry or nanomaterials for energy applications and interfaces.

The successful candidate will play an important role in determining the representation of the energy-related research in the journal and will work closely with the other editors on all aspects of the editorial process, including: manuscript selection, commissioning and editing of Reviews, Comments and News & Views, and writing for the journal. A key aspect of the job is liaising with the scientific community both in academia and in industry through laboratory visits and international conferences.

This is a demanding and intellectually stimulating position. Broad scientific knowledge and training, excellent literary skills and a keen interest in the practice and communication of science are a prerequisite. The successful candidate should, therefore, be dynamic and outgoing and have excellent interpersonal skills.

The ideal candidate should have:

  • PhD (or equivalent); postdoctoral experience may be an advantage but is not required.
  • Ability to demonstrate a general interest in interdisciplinary research and be open to branching out from their immediate research background.
  • Editorial experience is not required, although applicants with significant editorial experience are encouraged to apply and will potentially be considered for a Senior Editor position.

The position is offered on a full-time, permanent basis. The position will ideally be located in our New York or Jersey City offices.

To Apply please include:

  • Your CV
  • A cover letter explaining interest in the position
  • A concise discussion (250-300 words) of a recent scientific development in the field of energy materials which you have found particularly exciting (explaining why)
