Job Description

The Actuarial Procedures team’s responsibilities include leading and contributing to strategic initiatives; researching, developing, and implementing new ratemaking approaches and methodologies; creating efficiencies by standardizing and optimizing our current procedures; managing our ratemaking technology platform; and serving our actuarial community through training, education, governance, and monitoring of industry developments in actuarial work and professional standards.

In this role, you will review key aspects of the ratemaking functions of ISO. You will provide actuarial expertise in the development of new/revised methodologies, products, and services to achieve successful implementation of strategic initiatives, including product design, compliance with legal and fiscal regulations and applicable actuarial standards of practice, technical specifications, and administrative procedures.

You will achieve this through timely development of ratemaking methodologies, appropriate review of existing procedures for currency in view of existing market conditions and studies in support of the Actuarial Product areas, Actuarial Operations, Analytics and any other area as needed across all lines of business. This will include any necessary follow-up work involving explanations of methods, procedures, or data used. You may present your research/work both internally and externally, at CAS meetings, panel meetings, customers, regulators, etc.

To meet your goals, you’re expected to be driven to find efficiencies and standardization of operations. This may involve working with Technology and Product Delivery to develop tools to support standardizations. You should periodically review and evaluate existing ratemaking and statistical procedures in light of developments in the legal, regulatory, actuarial and technological spheres, and make recommendations for changes and improvements. You will also help develop new actuarial procedures to address new concepts and coverages, and serve as needed as a point of contact with the ISO regional offices. You also may be asked to oversee actuarial research and statistical analyses. Your expertise will allow you to represent ISO at meetings with insurance departments, industry committees, independent bureaus, and panel meetings.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years Property & Casualty actuarial experience
  • FCAS, ACAS, or near-ACAS candidates are preferred. Credit for CAS Exam 5 strongly preferred
  • Technical skills: Strong SQL, Python, and Excel skills are preferred. VBA, SAS, R, and other programming languages a plus
  • Strong oral and written communications skills
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Knowledge of multiple lines of insurance a plus
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and project management experience a plus
