Job/Department Summary:
Under the supervision of a Clinical Laboratory Scientist or Physician, the Phlebotomist/Clinical Laboratory Assistant supports laboratory operations in the WellCat Health Center. The incumbent performs phlebotomy and CLIA-waived laboratory testing to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of medical problems. This is a first-level laboratory classification requiring formal and on-the-job training. The incumbent must possess and maintain certification as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician I (CPT-1) issued by the California Department of Public Health, which permits venipuncture and skin puncture.
Required Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent
AND
Completion of required hours of classroom instruction and practical training or equivalent training and experience depending on date of entry to the field
AND
Current Phlebotomy Certificate from the California Department of Public Health Services, Laboratory Field Services Branch (LFS),
*Sufficient related experience to perform the work activities described above, which usually requires six to twelve months of related experience in a health care setting.
Preferences:
Preference may be given to applicants with the following as they may be considered specialized skills:
• University or student health experience: Prior experience in a student health or university healthcare environment, particularly with college-aged populations.
• Additional laboratory exposure: Experience in a broad range of laboratory operations beyond phlebotomy (e.g., microbiology, urinalysis, immunology).
• Customer service focus: Demonstrated ability to provide a supportive, respectful patient experience in a clinical setting.
• Cultural competency: Sensitivity to the diverse needs and backgrounds of college students, including international students, LGBTQ+ students, and students from various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
• Commitment to EDI: Evidence of fostering inclusivity and equity in patient interactions and workplace collaboration.

Pay Plan: 12/12
Work Schedule: Mon-Fri 8:00am-5:00pm
CSU Classification Salary Range: $45,312 (Step 1) - $63,444 (Step 20) per year.
