Job Description Qualifications:

The Boeing Company is currently seeking a Software Engineer (Mid-level or Senior) to join our team located in Everett, WA or Seattle, WA.  This position will focus on supporting the Boeing Commercial Airlines.

We are seeking an Engineer with expertise in Software Processes & Standards, who does not require specific engineering coding skills. This role is ideal for someone with a suitable background who is interested in advancing into a fellowship and benefiting from the experience this position offers. The candidate will serve as a focal point for industry engagement, liaising with all relevant bodies concerning Loadable Software Processes & Standards, including ARINC, SAE, RTCA (DO documents), and ATA Spec Working Groups. Additionally, the role involves partnering with cross-functional organizations such as Cyber, Manufacturing, Regulatory Administration, etc., to ensure that both company and industry processes and standards adequately meet the needs of the company, our regulators, and our internal processes.

Position Responsibilities:  

  • Developing, writing, and releasing configuration management standards and production processes for loadable software.

  • Work with the Loadable Software Standards and Software Quality and Distribution teams in documents and process flow for integrated processes.

  • Develop and provide training materials and checklists to Design Engineers, Manufacturing Engineers, Manufacturing Technicians, Quality Inspectors, Software Control Library Technicians, Customer Engineering, and other job roles on topics relating to loadable software standards and processes.

  • Working with LSW ME, Program Planning &Control (PP&C) and Commitment Development Schedule (CDS) system focal, developing and implementing changes to the CDS, unifying production and post-production releases.

  • Provide review of newly developed airplane systems SCDs to ensure alignment with LSW Standards related GTRs/SROs, etc.

  • Work with BCA boards (such as the BCA Production Technical Review Board (PTRB)) representing loadable software processes and standards supporting production.

  • Be a subject matter expert (SME) for loadable software configuration management.  Directly coordinates with EBOM/MBOM organization on any DCAC and ENOVIA system requirements affecting loadable software.

  • Provide on-going support, daily, to the production and development airplane programs relating to questions of loadable software design standards, configuration control, product data management, and general factory/flight line production issues.

This position is hybrid. This means that the selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options.  This is at the hiring team’s discretion and could potentially change in the future.

Security Clearance and Export Control Requirements:

This position must meet export control compliance requirements. To meet export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.15 is required.  “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Coding Challenge

To be considered for this position you will be required to complete a technical assessment as part of the selection process.  Failure to complete the assessment will remove you from consideration.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science

  • 5+ years working with real-time operating systems (RTOS)

  • Experience creating and documenting software architecture and designs

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience): 

  • Expertise in industry engagement and liaison with bodies such as ARINC, SAE, RTCA (DO documents), and ATA Spec Working Groups.

  • In-depth knowledge of Loadable Software Processes & Standards and familiarity with industry standards and regulations.

  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, working with teams like Cyber, Manufacturing, and Regulatory Administration.

  • Strategic and analytical thinking with experience in identifying process improvements and advancing into fellowship roles.
