Executive Director of Surgical Services

Boone Memorial Health is seeking an experienced and strategic Executive Director of Surgical Services to lead and oversee all surgical operations within our health system. This executive-level role is responsible for ensuring safe, high-quality, and efficient surgical care across all perioperative areas, including the operating room, PACU, endoscopy, and sterile processing. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative leader with strong operational, financial, and clinical management skills, capable of driving performance improvement while maintaining compliance with regulatory standards.

Boone Memorial Health (BMH) is a growing, rural Critical Access Health System located in Madison, West Virginia. At the core of our system is a 25-bed inpatient hospital with a 24/7 Emergency Department, which is designated as a Level IV Trauma Center. Qualifications

Required:

• Associate degree or higher in healthcare-related field or business management (relevant experience may be considered in lieu of education)

• Minimum 2 years of experience in a leadership/supervisory role

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic computer applications

Preferred:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in healthcare or business-related field

• Current RN license

• At least 5 years of hospital-based surgical services leadership

Key Responsibilities

• Provide executive leadership to the Operating Room, Pre-Op, PACU, Endoscopy, Sterile Processing, and Surgical Scheduling

• Align surgical services goals with hospital-wide strategic initiatives

• Ensure compliance with The Joint Commission, CMS, and other regulatory bodies

• Monitor and manage departmental budgets, capital planning, and productivity metrics

• Oversee credentialing, privileging, and onboarding of surgical providers and staff

• Collaborate with physicians and senior leadership to improve outcomes and patient satisfaction

• Lead efforts in patient throughput, staff engagement, and operational efficiency

• Support professional development and training for surgical staff

• Serve as liaison between departments, administration, and clinical teams

• Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement

• Participate in marketing initiatives and quality improvement programs

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervises the Surgical Services Management Team and indirectly oversees staff across:

• Main Operating Room (OR)

• Pre-Op & PACU

• Endoscopy

• Sterile Processing

• Surgical Scheduling & Materials

• Pre-Admission Testing
