GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITION:   

 

The Youth Ministry Coordinator will seek to enhance the holistic spiritual development of Ashland community children and teens by providing direction and implementation for all relevant ministry opportunities of the Kroc Center.  Specific attention will be given to evangelism & outreach, discipleship, mission, and supporting the ministry of the corps. This position plays a vital role in carrying out The Salvation Army’s religious mission and job performance will be reviewed, in part, on how well Christian behavior is modeled and infused in work and life. Due to the influential nature of this position, as essentially a key youth leader, the Youth Ministry Coordinator role requires active, engaged participation at the Ashland Kroc Corps. 

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES.    

  • To further The Salvation Army’s Christian mission at the Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in Ashland.
  • The Kroc Center as the church affiliation and place of worship, with an anticipated worship attendance of Sunday School and Sunday Morning Worship Service
  • Participate and lead prayer, model and reflect Christian behavior, teach/instruct youth in religious principles, and be responsible for youth faith formation.
  • Coordinate and implement the evangelism, discipleship, & leadership development of the young people involved in corps programs, such as Junior Soldiers, Corps Cadets, Performing Arts programs, Sunday School, etc.
  • To develop and implement new ministry initiatives and discipleship opportunities for children and teens as the need arises & time/budget allows – examples could include youth group, Bible bowl, Mission Literacy, small group formation, etc.
  • Work in unity with the Corps Officers and Young Peoples Sergeant Major (where applicable) to ensure programming excellence in all aspects of youth ministries.
  • Regular contact and visitation of those who participate in youth activities and their families.
  • Provide leadership and support as needed for youth activities such as, Junior Soldiers, Corps Cadets, Bible Bowl, Performing Arts Programs, VBS, etc.
  • Assist with recruitment, coordination, transportation, and supervision of children and youth participation in divisional and territorial programming including (but not limited to) Youth Councils, MAP, Jr. Soldier/Troops Rallies, The Salvation Army Camp.
  • To serve as the “mission integration specialist” for the Kroc Center Learning Zone, before/after-school program and summer day camp, including to lead and organize a weekly chapel and offer other electives/ corps program opportunities in coordination with the Learning Zone director.
  • To participate and engage in children and teen programs at the Kroc- such as Family Fun Night, Middle School Night, Kroc Soccer, LifeWise Academy- to bridge youth to the corps through visibility, relationship building and intentional spiritual impact. 
  • To develop and implement strategies that help children, teens, & families understand who The Salvation Army is as a church and provide entryways into the church fellowship.
  • Develop and maintain a healthy working relationship with all persons per the practices and policies of The Salvation Army.
  • Maintain clean work and program areas.
  • Attend all required Youth Ministries meetings and trainings conducted by Divisional Youth Departments.
  • To serve as director of the annual Vacation Bible School program.
  • To recruit, train, organize, & give supervision to volunteers that can engage in Corps youth ministry.
  • To attend and participate in corps council and Kroc staff meetings, as assigned by the Administrators/ Corps Officers.
  • Provide support and assist corps officers with spiritual ministry, as needed and assigned- such as, but not limited to corps programs, corps/Kroc special events, seasonal ministries.
  • To follow through on administrative duties of the position, including the timely submission of related attendance and statistics, adherence to the Corps Operating Budget, consistent Outlook e-mail correspondence, and maintenance of Corps Youth Ministry program resources.
  • To act as the Kroc Center liaison for community youth ministry events & programs.
  • To attend youth ministry training events conducted by the Division and/or Territory, as directed by the Administrators/ Corps Officers.
  • Position will serve as a daytime, evening or weekend manager for the entire facility along with the rest of the full-time professional staff. This includes “Manager on Duty” responsibilities.
  • To perform other reasonable tasks which may be assigned, as needed.
