American Airlines is looking for a senior developer to work in our developer experience product group.  As a senior in the developer experience product group, you will work with developers' and architects across the enterprise to understand the developer experience and build patterns, templates and deployment pipelines to improve that experience and meet enterprise standards.   • The role of a senior developer in developer experience will help improve the developer experience related to common templates, patterns, delivery pipelines and governance.
  • As a senior developer, you will leverage your development experience to connect with other developers to understand the current developer experience and how it can be improved to meet their needs and the enterprise goals.
  • This role will have the opportunity to contribute to industry leading platforms (such as backstage) while influencing the Developer Experience at American Airlines
  • The senior developer role will also get to work with the developer experience product leaders to shape our developer experience strategy

What you'll do

  • Collaborates with leaders, business analysts, product managers, IT architects, technical leads and other developers, along with internal customers, to understand requirements and develop and maintain developer experience functionality.
  • Maintains and enhances existing enterprise services, applications, and platforms using domain driven design and test-driven development.
  • Troubleshoots and debugs complex issues; identifies and implements solutions.
  • Creates detailed project specifications, requirements, and estimates.
  • Researches and implements new technologies to enhance current processes, security, and performance.
  • Supports the development of coding standards and adheres to best practices and security guidelines.
  • Works closely with software architects and technical leads to ensure decisions meet long-term enterprise growth needs.
  • Mentoring / training of junior team members.

All you'll need for success

Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • 3 years of full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) professional experience designing, developing, and implementing large-scale applications in hosted production environments

 

Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, Technology, Information Systems (CIS/MIS), Engineering or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience/training.     
  • Demonstrated competency open-source experience.
  • Experience in building and maintaining developer experience technology.
  • Master’s degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, Technology, Information Systems (CIS/MIS), Engineering or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience/training.
  • 5 years of full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) experience.
  • Airline Industry experience.

 

Skills, Licenses & Certification

  • Proficiency in Java Development.
  • Proficiency in object-oriented design techniques and principles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Tools (Project, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Experience in Agile methodologies, such as SCRUM or Kanban.
  • Experience in DevOps Toolchain methodologies, including Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment.
  • Proficiency and demonstrated experience in many of the following technologies:
    • Cloud-based development: Kubernetes, CNC
