Overview:
The accountant is responsible for managing financial records, preparing financial reports, analyzing budgets, and ensuring compliance with accounting regulations. They play a crucial role in maintaining accurate financial information and providing insights for strategic decision-making. This position will require deployment to disaster areas. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will require the individual to deploy to a covered disaster are within 48 hours of notification.
The deployment areas will cover FEMA regions 3 & 4, Delaware, DC, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, Alabama, Mississippi, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Kentucky, and Tennessee.
Job Summary:
- Financial Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger entries, and payroll records.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, on a regular basis to provide insights into the organization's financial health.
- Budget Analysis: Assist in the development, monitoring, and analysis of budgets to ensure financial goals are met and resources are allocated effectively.
- Tax Compliance: Prepare and file tax returns, ensuring compliance with relevant tax laws and regulations. Stay updated on changes in tax legislation that may affect the organization.
- Audit Support: Coordinate and assist with internal and external audits, providing documentation and explanations as required.
- Financial Analysis: Conduct financial analysis to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement. Provide insights and recommendations based on analysis findings.
- Process Improvement: Continuously evaluate and improve accounting processes and procedures to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and internal controls.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with accounting standards, regulations, and internal policies, including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), where applicable.
- Financial Software Management: Utilize financial software systems effectively to record transactions, generate reports, and streamline accounting processes.
- Communication: Collaborate with other departments, management, and external stakeholders to provide financial information, analysis, and support as needed.

Skills & Abilities:
- Proven experience as an Accountant or in a similar role, with a strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.
- Proficiency in accounting software and MS Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Commitment to upholding ethical standards and maintaining confidentiality.
- Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Willingness to travel and work in disaster-affected areas for extended periods, often in challenging conditions.
- Live within driving distance of a metropolitan airport.
Additional Skills (Preferred):
- Experience with ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) systems.
- Knowledge of industry-specific regulations and requirements.
- Familiarity with financial modeling and forecasting techniques.
- Experience with data analysis tools and techniques.
Education/Experience:
- 10 years of accounting experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Certification(s):
CPA (Certified Public Accountant) certification preferred.
Clearance:
Must be able to obtain and sustain a Public Trust clearance.
