QVI is looking for candidates located in the following states: Arkansas, Arizona, Colorado, Georgia, or Alabama.
Salary: $55,000-$75,000 annually, based on experience.
The Field Service Engineer provides on-site, installation, calibration and repair services for QVI metrology products in North America. This role requires a combination of technical knowledge and customer service communication skills and is a full-time travel assignment with rare international travel required. Field Service Engineers function as a critical part of the Quality Vision Services (QVS) team, QVI’s service organization, supporting a variety of QVI brands: OGP (Optical Gaging Products), CCP (Certified Comparator Products), VIEW (VIEW Micro-Metrology).
Role and Responsibilities:
Standard work practices include the following:
· Receive service dispatch instructions via email or phone identifying the product, the customer, the
issue, and the expected timing
· Make direct contact with the customer to confirm details on location and timing for arrival.
· Arrange and book travel.
· Arrive on-site with company-provided and personal tools and commence work.
· Maintain contact with QVS headquarters and customers on progress and needs.
· Complete service calls and efficiently complete service reports, logs, and expense reports per standard QVS policies, practices, and forms.
· While on-site, recognize product upgrade opportunities and collaborate with the home office in communicating those leads.
· Demonstrate initiative and self-awareness on training needs based on the products of customers you serve and proactively communicate those needs to your manager.
Requirements
Education and Hard Skill Requirements:
· Education: 2-year degree in engineering, technology, or physics required. In lieu of a degree, 4 years of equivalent related work or military experience will be considered.
· Experience: Minimum 2 years of technical “hands-on” Field Service experience or similar military experience in calibration, diagnosis, and repair of complex systems is required.
· Strong mechanical & electrical aptitude. Experience in the use of dial indicators, calipers, multimeters, precision levels, etc.
· Strong math skills and knowledge of standard units and unit conversions with the ability to think “small”, (micrometers, micro-inches, micro-radians, arc-seconds, etc.)
· Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical drawings, specifications, and manuals.
· Computer and controller experience. Knowledge of control systems and ability to diagnose complex hardware/software interactions and take appropriate action.
Soft Skill Requirements:
· Ability to work independently and be resourceful. Ability to quickly react in a dynamic environment with changing priorities and at times conflicting requirements from customers and others.
· Ability to convey technical status in terms customers can understand in an honest, professional tone in a way that reinforces the customer relationship.
· Endurance with the ability to sustain a full-time travel assignment.
· Strong attention to detail. As an ISO-accredited organization, the quality of the QVS service includes not only the hands-on work performed, but the detailed documentation generated after the call.
Physical and/or Environmental Requirements:
· Physical fitness and flexibility sufficient to contort into, underneath, and around QVI products to execute service tasks.
· Ability to sit for extended periods of time (8-hour shift) in an office setting, utilizing standard office equipment (computer, keyboard, computer mouse, phone, etc.)
· Ability to drive a car for extended periods of time and travel via air domestically or internationally as needed.
· Ability to lift and carry items of up to 50 pounds without assistance.
· Sufficient manual hand dexterity and visual acuity to work with machine parts and components and observe fine details.
· Located within one hour of an airport is preferred.
