The Journeyperson-in-Training (JIT) – Electrician position is a developmental skilled trades role designed to prepare associates for Journeyperson Electrician status. Working under the guidance of experienced Journeyperson Electricians, the JIT Electrician assists with maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, installing, and improving electrical systems throughout the manufacturing facility. This position combines hands-on experience with required technical training to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to safely maintain automated manufacturing equipment while progressing through the Journeyperson-in-Training Program.Job Description:
As a Journeyperson-in-Training (JIT) – Electrician, you will learn and develop the skills necessary to become a Journeyperson Electrician by assisting in the maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and installation of industrial electrical systems and automated manufacturing equipment. You will work alongside experienced Journeyperson Electricians while completing required training and demonstrating proficiency in electrical maintenance, troubleshooting, and safe work practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist Journeyperson Electricians with preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on manufacturing equipment.
- Learn to troubleshoot electrical, PLC, and control system issues on automated production equipment.
- Assist in the installation, repair, testing, and maintenance of electrical components, wiring, motors, drives, sensors, and control panels.
- Perform electrical maintenance on equipment including, but not limited to:
- Robots
- CNC lathes and mills
- Conveyors
- Forging presses
- Induction heating systems
- Hydraulic and pneumatic equipment
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
- Safely operate electrical testing equipment including multimeters, meggers, amp meters, voltage testers, and other diagnostic tools.
- Develop proficiency in PLC troubleshooting and industrial automation systems.
- Assist with equipment installations, upgrades, and continuous improvement projects.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and complete assigned work orders.
- Follow all company safety procedures, lockout/tagout requirements, MIOSHA regulations, and electrical safety standards.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Demonstrate continuous improvement in technical knowledge and practical skills while progressing toward Journeyperson Electrician status.
Required Skills and Education
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum of three (3) years of documented electrical experience. Applicants must provide a notarized letter on company letterhead from their current and/or previous employer(s) verifying a minimum of three (3) years of electrical work experience. The letter must include the dates of employment, a summary of electrical duties performed, and the employer's contact information for verification purposes.
- Mechanical and electrical aptitude with a strong desire to pursue a career as an industrial Journeyperson Electrician.
- Basic understanding of industrial electrical systems, electrical principles, hand tools, and power tools.
- Ability to read and interpret basic electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical drawings, or demonstrate the ability to learn.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work safely around industrial manufacturing equipment.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with guidance from experienced Journeyperson Electricians.
- Willingness to work any shift, overtime, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Ability to successfully complete all required Journeyperson-in-Training (JIT) Program training, coursework, and competency evaluations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of vocational, technical, or trade school coursework in Electrical Technology, Mechatronics, Industrial Maintenance, or Automation Technology.
- Previous manufacturing or industrial maintenance experience.
- Experience with PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Mitsubishi, or GE Fanuc).
- Familiarity with AC/DC motors, motor controls, relay logic, sensors, and variable frequency drives (VFDs).
- Industrial electrical maintenance experience in an automated manufacturing environment.
