About the role

The Senior Research Analyst Municipal job is considered a subject matter expert in credit research on municipal bonds issued primarily by state and local governments. Working independently, this job analyzes financial documents, conducts industry and competitive analysis, and prepares reports related to the municipal bond market. This job contributes to the overall success of the municipal research team and stays current on industry-leading trends and changes to provide detailed credit opinions and recommendations to support Nuveen’s investment. The job will also advise lower-level analysts on municipal bond market strategy.



Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Reviews research-driven written and oral reports regarding municipal bond market competitive analysis findings and industry trends.

  • Guides the development of relative value assessments with portfolio managers and traders and conducts fundamental credit analysis.

  • Collects market information and derives business forecasts to best determine upcoming trends and industry changes in the municipal bond industry.

  • Conveys recommendations of complex products within municipals to the portfolio management teams through presentations and investments reports.

  • Attends national industry conferences, meets with company management, and analyzes changes in supply and demand patterns for the municipal bond industry.

  • Reviews well-developed, empirically based research models for use in relevant disciplines as directed.

  • Collaborates with management on improvements to research and development procedures and techniques with the teams responsible for municipal research.

  • Meets with clients and participates in departmental-wide projects in areas such as external content creation, responsible investing and data and technology improvements.

Educational Requirements

  • University (Degree) Preferred

  • 5+ Years Required; 7+ Years Preferred

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5+ years of municipal credit research experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of municipal credit research experience
  • 10+ years of municipal and/or credit research experience
  • Experience meeting with clients and participates in departmental-wide projects in areas such as external content creation, responsible investing and data and technology improvements.
  • Master’s degree or CFA
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Excel; knowledge of Creditscope and Bloomberg is a plus. Computer coding skills and knowledge of Python a plus.
  • Strong analytical skills. Exceptional problem recognition and resolution skills. Advanced mathematical, financial statement analysis, and accounting skills.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written). Ability to work within a team, as well as complete projects independently.

Base Pay Range: $116,300/yr. - $160,000/yr.

Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location.  In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance (for example, annual discretionary incentive programs, non-annual sales incentive plans, or other non-annual incentive plans).
