Northrop Grumman Defense Systems has an opening for a Consulting Chief Engineer for Guidance, Navigation, & Control to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Roy, UT with 25 percent travel in support of the Sentinel program.


What You’ll Get To Do:


NG Defense Systems has an opening for a Consulting Chief Engineering to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals.  The individual in this role will lead a team of hardware and software engineers to develop and test the Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GN&C) system for the Sentinel ICBM.  The individual will collaborate with Systems Engineering, GN&C Analysis & Algorithms, Guidance Computer, Integration & Test, and the Software IPT in a team environment.  The individual will establish and implement Agile development techniques and metrics to help manage team progress and quality throughout the life cycle.  This position reports directly to the Office of the Chief Engineer in support of the GN&C IPT Director.

You’ll Bring These Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) with at least 16 years of progressive engineering experience; 14 years with Master’s Degree in STEM; 12 years with PhD. 
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with an active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance at time of application with an investigation completed within the last 6 years
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs
  • Able to lead a diverse team while cultivating a positive work environment
  • Demonstrated performance to drive execution in support and alignment to IPT leadership direction
  • Demonstrated experience leading the design, development and validation of flight-critical systems for vehicle/platform and utility management systems.  Specifically, experience managing a flight- or safety-critical development program with responsibility for budget and schedule using Earned Value Management System (EVMS) principles and application
  • Acts independently to uncover and resolve issues associated with the development, implementation, deployment, and support of software systems
  • Expertise in developing full life cycle of software for a hard real-time system
  • Demonstrated ability to apply and/or develop highly advanced technologies, scientific principles, theories and concepts towards successful program execution.  Exhibits an exceptional degree of ingenuity, creativity, and resourcefulness
  • Detailed understanding of Guidance, Navigation, and Control systems
  • Able to communicate effectively at the highest levels. Viewed as expert in field within the corporation
  • Develops plans and recommends technical approach to accomplish program requirements. Work accomplished typically supports long-range strategic goals
  • Serves as consultant to leadership team in program-wide planning concerning new or projected areas of technological research and advancements

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:

  • Active Top Secret clearance
  • Familiarity with missiles and nuclear surety
