The Hartford Investment Management Company (HIMCO) is seeking a Chief of Staff to partner with the Chief Investment Officer (CIO) of The Hartford/President of HIMCO. This visible leadership role is central to ensuring the firm’s strategies are executed - aligning resources, processes, and initiatives to deliver measurable outcomes for innovation and operational excellence.  This role will serve as a strategic partner, integrator, and execution lead across the investment organization.

As Chief of Staff, you will drive alignment between executive priorities and organizational execution, ensuring seamless coordination of firm-wide initiatives, strategic planning, innovation, and comprehensive ownership. You will lead the HIMCO administrative team and serve as the central conduit for information flow to and from the Office of the CIO/President. This is a Hartford-based, in-office role reporting directly to the CIO/President.

Responsibilities:

  • Translate the CIO’s vision into actionable strategies, aligning resources and initiatives to deliver outcomes. Manage, lead, and support special projects and initiatives in conjunction with oversight of The Hartford’s investment strategy and investment portfolio, as well as all aspects of HIMCO’s business.

  • Serve as a liaison with The Hartford Executive Leadership team and other Hartford Senior Leaders regarding investment management and other One Hartford business activities and opportunities.

  • Support the development of presentations for The Hartford Executive Leadership team, The Hartford’s Board of Directors, and leadership of HIMCO’s third-party clients.

  • Collaborate with HIMCO employees and support teams to create, communicate, and implement strategic business plans and initiatives.

  • Develop and implement organizational processes to strengthen internal workflows and improve coordination between departments. Serve as the central coordination point for departmental and enterprise-wide activities.

  • Design and implement methods for tracking projects, deliverables, internal coordination, and communication needs on a day-to-day basis.

  • Collaborate with HIMCO colleagues to drive innovation, efficiency, increased productivity, and superior investment outcomes, with a focus on leveraging Artificial Intelligence.

  • Stay abreast of the evolving investment management landscape to support HIMCO activities with existing and new third-party clients.

  • Develop relationships with HIMCO third-party clients to support HIMCO client service activities.

  • Ensure calendar, travel, and daily activities for the office align with the strategic priorities of the CIO/President.

  • Manage a team of three HIMCO administrative staff.

Qualifications:

  • At least ten years of demonstrated experience managing and coordinating multiple, complex programs and projects in a fast-paced work environment. A minimum of five years of experience in the investment management industry is required.

  • Knowledgeable about the investment management industry, ideally insurance asset management, and the evolving investment landscape.

  • A highly effective communicator with the ability to clearly and concisely articulate ideas, concepts, and proposals. Strong executive presence.

  • A motivated, results-oriented, and resourceful leader who quickly takes ownership of responsibilities and establishes credibility as a strategic business partner.

  • Ability to communicate and influence multiple stakeholders within the organization; polished and politically adept; capable of delivering difficult messages and gatekeeping as appropriate.

  • An intellectually sharp individual who is a lifelong learner, able to work collaboratively and flexibly to adapt to constantly evolving priorities.

  • Capable of quantitative analysis, with a proven ability to work with numbers and financial data.

  • Demonstrates collaboration and teamwork with positive behaviors; prior experience leading or mentoring helpful.

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Sound judgment and decision-making skills; not afraid to take thoughtful risks.

  • Technology savvy.

  • Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree a plus.
