Inpatient Pharmacy Tech - Levels 1 - 5 - Overnight

This position is located at Methodist Hospital, Rochester, MN

Pharmacy Tech levels 1 - 5:

Assists the pharmacist in providing optimal pharmaceutical care to the patient. Gathers, labels and distributes medications accurately and efficiently. Packages, prepares and safely compounds medications including hazardous substances accurately and efficiently. Handles, manages and distributes controlled substances in compliance with regulatory requirements and department policies; and assists with drug diversion surveillance. Assists with maintaining accurate medication inventories and billing of medications. Effectively communicates utilizing established systems and processes. Performs responsibilities and duties of the job in a manner that is attentive to age and ability considerations.

Note: These qualifications apply to the Pharmacy Tech level 1, which are the minimum qualifications that must be met for all levels. 

Minimum Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent. 

Additional Qualification

• Experience with the use of office software computer applications and keyboarding. Able to learn technical tasks.
• Effectively reads, writes, speaks and understands English. Able to follow written and verbal directions. Able to apply math and calculator skills along with a working knowledge of the metric system. Possess strong telephone and verbal communication skills. 
• Prior experience as a hospital pharmacy technician preferred. 
• Demonstrated ability to work in a busy environment and pay attention to detail. Proven organizational and problem-solving skills. Proven ability to effectively work both independently and in a team environment.
• No history of drug abuse or misuse; or proof of successful completion of a certified drug abuse rehabilitation program is required.

License or Certification

• Current registration with the MN Board of Pharmacy, or eligibility for registration. 
• National Pharmacy Technician certification within 12 months of hire.
