Within MBRDNA, the Electrified Drive Systems division is a key player in Mercedes-Benz’s global development network. The Senior Manager e-Drive Software is responsible for leading the development of embedded software for various controllers in e-Drive systems. This includes management of multiple teams with the technical responsibility for controls and application software, model based development, basic software per Autosar, testing and functional safety. The developed products will support various vehicle projects and are an integral part of the development of electrified powertrains.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop SW solutions for electrified components, with a focus on E-Motor Control application SW, including Torque Path, Diagnostics, Torque/HV/Thermal safety (per ISO26262) and respective calibrations.
  • Manage the development, implementation and configuration of basic software/architecture, services and flash routines per AUTOSAR standards. Define required DevOps toolchains per MB.OS processes, methods and tools and adapt legacy workflows accordingly. Specify control board architecture and software interface modules for the embedded control system. Manage suppliers to ensure specifications are met.
  • Establish, execute and continuously improve test strategies, coordinate various testing levels and plan/maintain relevant test infrastructure (HIL/Emulator/Dyno).
  • Lead multiple projects with different stakeholders simultaneously and balance available resources vs. customer expectation regarding timing, cost and scope. Identify synergies in technology, processes and customer needs to maximize the efficiency of the engineering teams through lean & agile methods.
  • Introduce new ways of working per the Operation Excellence framework to maximize the efficiency of a large engineering department (consisting of professionals and multiple managers).Align all development operations with company internal standards, Automotive Spice and agile principles. Implement processes and procedures to ensure quality software.
  • Define strategies to ensure available competencies align with future needs regarding SW development and e-Drive technology at Mercedes-Benz, continuously expand the company internal network and align responsibilities with relevant global partners.
  • Identify strategic partners in academia and collaborate with Universities for technology relevant to Power Electronics, e-Motors and controls systems.
  • Manage resources and ensure proper staffing of the development teams by hiring talented engineers and balance peak workload times via contracted services. Financial planning of the content of service agreements, work-scope, capital expenditures and necessary resources

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Masters of Engineering
  • 10+ years of relevant professional experience
  • Broad management knowledge to lead project teams in one department. Show mastery level knowledge and skills to continuously improve embedded SW technology.
  • Extensive knowledge and applied experience with development processes per ISO/IEC 15504 (Automotive SPICE), CMMI, ISO 26262, AUTOSAR and Mercedes-Benz MDS. Experience with integrated software development environments and applicable testing methods for embedded software and functional validation

  • Cultural awareness, demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and an inclusive work environment.
  • Applied know-how of agile engineering practices and Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), both on SW and product level.
  • Provide technical guidance, direction and mentoring to engineering and management team.
  • General powertrain systems and e-motor controls knowledge. Experience with powertrain requirements for the Mercedes-Benz brand, involving development of software and calibration to meet customer expectations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in working with customers, suppliers and partners across various international development locations.
