About the role

An exciting postdoctoral research fellowship opportunity in clinical neuroimaging is available at Wake Forest University School of Medicine within the Department of Pharmacology & Physiology. The interdisciplinary research team, directed by Dr. Christina Meade, seeks to understand how drug addiction and HIV infection together impact the brain, and in turn affect neurocognitive functioning. Currently funded projects utilize multimodal neuroimaging (resting-state fMRI, diffusion-weighted imaging, and high-resolution anatomical scans) to examine brain structure and function over time. This fellowship will provide advanced multidisciplinary training, including mentored research, manuscript and grant-writing, and conference presentation experiences in a collaborative research environment. This position is ideal for individuals interested in pursuing an independent research career in an academic setting, and the fellow will be supported in the pursuit of independent funding (e.g., NRSA fellowship, K Award).

Duties

Responsibilities will include: processing and analysis of multi-modal MRI data, including the programming and implementation of automated scripts; manuscript writing; and some administrative tasks, such as assisting with preparing NIH progress reports. The position entails planning, executing, and troubleshooting analyses. The opportunity for first-author manuscripts exists, and publication will be encouraged.

Education & Experience

Doctoral degree with a background in cognitive neuroscience and MRI data analysis is required. Strong programming and quantitative analysis skills are essential. Interest in HIV and/or drug addiction is ideal.

Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. The initial appointment will be for 1 year, with additional funding conditional upon satisfactory performance. Salary is commensurate with NIH guidelines and applicant experience.

To apply, please send a CV and statement of interest to cmeade@wakehealth.edu.

Our team prioritizes inclusivity and diversity, and we welcome applications from members of groups that are traditionally underrepresented in science.
