Position Overview

Apollo Management Holdings, LP (Apollo) – AASP Management, LP (AASP)

AASP is searching for an Associate or VP of Counterparty Credit Risk with responsibility for counterparty exposure lending portfolios. 
This individual will work closely with Apollo credit professionals, the ATLAS SP Origination teams and other risk leaders within AASP as well as with clients and ATLAS SP key partners. The individual in this position will be responsible for assessing and managing the counterparty risk associated with financing and trading relationships which exist across the different business lines of ATLAS SP. The role requires an understanding of both fundamental credit risk and market risk as well as knowledge of securitized products and/or structured products. The role includes being able to analyze a counterparty’s ability to continue to perform on its obligations and how the evaluation of that risk impacts a broader view on the risk appetite for a given transaction or trade. This position will report to the Head of Counterparty Credit Risk.  
The successful candidate will also be responsible for the governance aspects associated with the management and monitoring of counterparty credit risk including establishing policy documents, risk reporting, management presentations and data/risk monitoring. He/she will have the technical ability to create tools and risk views that facilitate proactive management of counterparty, credit, market and liquidity risk. The candidate will need to have a strong desire to roll-up his/her sleeves and dig-in across a multitude of tasks as the scope of the role expands and evolves. Collaboration with internal teams and external clients is a key to success in the role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct and create thorough credit analysis of counterparties, including financial statement reviews, credit rating justification and suitability of product mix
  • Engage in the due diligence process when needed for new counterparties and periodic reviews for existing ones
  • Work in conjunction with the credit risk officers and front office on new or existing transactions
  • Develop and maintain counterparty risk management tools in conjunction with other risk functions and internal groups; this includes risk ratings and counterparty classifications
  • Provide input for the development and updating of counterparty credit risk policies and procedures, framework documents and broader governance
  • Present counterparty risk assessments and views to the CRO, front office and senior risk committees, as needed
  • Build upon existing product knowledge to provide input during all stages of the counterparty life-cycle at ATLAS across both lending and trading transactions
  • Identify opportunities to streamline, automate and enhance our risk governance practices, processes and controls
  • Perform ad hoc credit and market risk analysis on counterparties and participate in portfolio reviews to identify risk developments or concentrations
  • Contribute to stress testing, risk limits and risk appetite frameworks
  • Collaborate with internal clients and partners throughout the Company and externally with counterparties

Qualifications & Experience

  • 5 - 10 years of Risk management experience with, or a combination of, Counterparty Risk, Credit Risk or Market Risk
  • Experience creating risk memos focused on counterparty analysis, including financial and market risk aspects
  • An understanding of Securitized Products, Structured Products, Credit, FI and/or ABS lending knowledge is required
  • Advanced excel skills required, and while not required a proficiency in basic programming (Advanced VBA, Python, etc) is desirable
  • Previous work experience with repo and structured financing agreements or custom loan agreements is preferable, along with the ability to interpret legal documentation as it relates to counterparty risk (fund-level documents, etc.)
  • Previous work in drafting policy documents and creating senior level presentations
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Exceptional oral and written communication and presentation skills
  • Great attitude; team player and having a risk-first mindset
