Research studies in the Plastic and Oral Surgery Department focus on a breadth of areas related to reconstructive surgery. This current role primarily centers on oral and maxillofacial surgery research with Principal Investigator, Dr. Mark Green.
Dr. Green’s research team is actively engaged in several research projects involving outcomes research related to children with cleft lip and palate, improving postoperative care in orthognathic patients, and evaluating postoperative pain management in this population. The Clinical Research Assistant role offers the opportunity to interact directly with patients for research purposes, contribute significantly toward abstract and manuscript submissions, and collaborate closely with a team of interdisciplinary healthcare providers.
This Clinical Research Assistant I will be responsible for:
- Consents and recruits patients for research studies. Provides detailed background information regarding studies to families, communicates all policies and procedures, and responds to all inquiries.
- Serves as liaison to the families/patients in the research studies, guiding and advising them throughout each phase of the study. Acts as a resource to study participants, addressing any concerns they may have.Troubleshoot the resolution of any issues that may arise throughout the study
- Coordinates and prepares the necessary documentation for Institutional Review Board (IRB) and Committee on Clinical Investigations (CCI) submissions, together with the Principal Investigator of the study.
- Creates and prepares data collection statistical reports and analytical summaries for distribution to the study research team for review and analysis. Writes articles and summary papers of studies for submission to medical journals, as may be necessary/requested.
- Participates in the training of newly hired research study assistants and collaborating dental or medical students, as required.
- Monitors and reviews data collection and data entry from the electronic medical records.
- Performs other miscellaneous administrative duties as assigned or required.
- A Bachelor's Degree in STEM.
- High attention to detail and organizational skills, ability to multi-task, analytical skills to gather and interpret data in which the information or problems are moderately complex to complex.
- Well-developed communication skills to provide critical information to patients, effectively deal with conflicting views or issues, and the ability to mediate fair solutions.
- Flexible schedule, including some evenings. Hours will be adjusted to maximize recruitment and study schedules.
- Experience with statistical software (SPSS, SAS, R, etc.) and prior scientific writing experience is a plus.
- A valid driver’s license is a plus.
- A two-year time commitment is preferred.
