Clinical Therapist III

Overall Purpose Of The Job

This position is in support of the City of Chicago’s Migrant Shelter operations.  Located in the Chicago Illinois region.  

 

The primary function of the Clinical Therapist II; Under general supervision, provides professional therapeutic treatment services in a supervisory and administrative capacity in a mental health center 
 

Key responsibilities

Under general supervision, provides professional therapeutic treatment services in a supervisory and  

administrative capacity in a mental health center;  

Manages a therapeutic program, coordinating case management services to clients and overseeing clinical staff to ensure adherence to program goals and standards.  

Assigns caseloads, reviews treatment plans prepared staff and facilitates psychotherapy sessions for clinical staff.  

Coordinates and supervises the activities of a therapeutic treatment program at a mental health center.  

Supervises a staff of professional and paraprofessional therapists engaged in providing psycho therapeutic treatment to patients.  

Assigns caseloads and reviews case treatment plans.  

Evaluates staff performance in all phases of psychotherapeutic treatment.  

Assists staff in maintaining quality services and managing case workloads.  

Conduct diagnostic casework interviews with patients and others.  

Provides professional diagnostic assessment and psychotherapy to individuals, groups, and families.  

Formulates and implements initial and master treatment plans.  

Consults with psychiatrists, physicians, clinical therapists, and other staff members to ensure  

cooperative treatment planning.  

Implements staff development, in-service programs, and case management presentation.  

Provides consultation to professional educators and community workers.  

Participates in community mental health services for the prevention of mental illness.  

Work in cooperation with social and medical agencies to obtain additional services needed by  

patients.  

 Develops liaison relationships with community and civic groups.  

Assists in the implementation of administrative policies and center programs and activities.  

Participates in budget planning and staff development activities.  

Prepares and maintains statistical reports on center activities and services rendered.  

May service as an alternate to the center’s director.

Experience: 

Must have experience with charting clinical visits using appropriate medical coding in an electronic  

medical record.  

      

Education: 

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master’s degree in Psychology, Social  

Work, supplemented by three years of progressively responsible mental health experience, or  

Master’s degree in Guidance and Counselling, Vocational Rehabilitation, Pastoral Counselling, Art  

Therapy or Educational Psychology supplemented by one-year post-master’s supervised practicum.  

carried out in a mental health setting, as well as three additional years of professional mental health experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience, provided the minimum degree requirement is met. 

 

 

Physical Demands:  

Work involves sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time.  

May require bending, stooping and lifting up to 15 lbs.  

 

 

Other Special Qualifications: 

US Citizen or Permanent Resident Card is required.   

Must be licensed to practice clinical therapy in the State of Illinois.
