We are seeking candidates for the position of RR Mason-First Class (1111) in the B&B/Bridges & Buildings.    

  

 

OVERALL DESCRIPTION

Lays and binds building materials, such as brick, structural tile, concrete block, cinder block, glass block, and terra-cotta block, with mortar and other substances to construct or repair walls, partitions, arches, sewers, and other structures. Smooths and finishes surfaces of poured concrete, such as floors, walks, sidewalks, roads, or curbs using a variety of hand and power tools. Aligns forms for sidewalks, curbs, or gutters; patches voids; and uses saws to cut expansion joints. Apply interior or exterior plaster, cement, stucco, or similar materials.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Installs brick, terra cotta, terrazzo, tile, and building blocks to construct or repair walls, partitions, floors, arches, and other structures.
  2. Lays brick in horizontal rows or in designs and shapes. 
  3. Cuts brick to size with brick hammer when necessary.
  4. Checks vertical and horizontal alignment of structures with plumb bob and level as work progresses.
  5. Lays fire brick inside boxes of boilers and forges. Uses high temperature cement, fire clay, and ganister. Pours and forms ganister insulation around doors and fire walls.
  6. Constructs forms, as well as installs shoring in trenches and metal concrete reinforcements.
  7. Apply interior or exterior plaster, cement, stucco, or similar materials.

ADDITIONAL SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Must have a driver's license or equivalent.
  • Must successfully complete masonry qualifications test and performance test as required.
  • Must have experience in bricklaying, cement finishing, and wall plastering.
