Description
The Senior Vice President, Marketing and Communications (SVP) will lead JED’s efforts to enhance its brand, reputation, and visibility while driving awareness and demand for its programs. Reporting to the CEO, this executive will oversee the strategic direction and execution of program marketing, enterprise communications and media relations, and editorial to support JED’s mission. They will ensure consistent, clear, and impactful marketing and messaging to key audiences, creating demand for JED’s programming and reinforcing JED’s position as a leader in youth mental health and suicide prevention. The SVP will work closely with the Advancement and Community Engagement team to support fundraising and donor engagement through compelling storytelling and high-quality communications.Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership- Develop and implement a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy to create demand for JED’s programming, raise awareness for JED, and to inspire potential donors to select JED as a charitable organization for their generosity.
- Ensure JED’s messaging and content remains clear, consistent, and impactful across all channels and to all stakeholders.
- Serve as a thought leader in marketing and communications, advising senior leadership on best practices and innovative approaches.
- Manage the department as a responsive service function to program areas and development, ensuring seamless collaboration while maintaining distinct responsibilities from JED’s programmatic and advisory functions.
- Leverage data and insights to refine strategies, measure impact, and optimize decisions based on performance metrics, trends, and organizational goals.
- Oversee and maintain JED’s brand identity, ensuring brand integrity and consistency across all communications.
- Develop strategies to enhance JED’s reputation and visibility among key stakeholders, including media, partners, donors, and the public.
- Provide oversight of design and creative, ensuring high-quality, cohesive visuals that align with JED’s mission and resonate with key audiences.
- Partner with the People and Equity team to refine and develop the employer brand in an effort to support recruitment efforts, positioning JED as an employer of choice.
- Monitor media coverage and public perception, managing crisis communications and reputation risk when necessary.
- Design and execute marketing campaigns to increase awareness and drive engagement with JED’s programs and initiatives, including JED’s school-based programs, community-based organizations, advocacy and policy, and youth and entertainment/media engagement initiatives.
- Lead promotional efforts to support fundraising and donor engagement strategies.
- Utilize market research and data analytics to optimize marketing strategies and outreach efforts.
- Manage donated and paid media opportunities.
- Oversee public relations strategy to elevate JED’s visibility and credibility in national, regional, and sector-specific media.
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with key journalists, media outlets, and influencers in the mental health, education, and nonprofit sectors.
- Support senior leaders in preparing for media engagements, interviews, and speaking opportunities.
- Proactively identify media opportunities aligned with JED’s priorities, campaigns, and key moments throughout the year.
- Lead response strategy for crisis communications and reputation management in collaboration with executive leadership.
- Track and analyze media coverage to assess performance and guide future PR strategy.
- Develop and enforce editorial standards and processes to ensure timeliness, accuracy, and alignment with brand voice, mission, and messaging across all content.
