HealthPartners is hiring for a part time Medical Assistant/Sterilization Aide
QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED:
High school diploma or GED.
Formal education in central supply / sterilization or at least 6 months recent (within the last 3 years) experience.
Demonstrated organizational skills required.
Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, including appropriate use of grammar / spelling.
Demonstrated ability to follow detailed instruction work efficiently despite interruptions and maintain a courteous and cooperative manner.
Current CPR certification for health professionals through the American Heart Association or Red Cross required within 6 months of hire and maintained. On-line CPR certification is not acceptable
PREFERRED:
Computer skills preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires body mobility, ability to stand for long periods, reach, bend, climb and transport. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds waist high. This position requires dexterity of hands and visual acuity.
POSITION PURPOSE:
Service excellence is to be centered on patient care and patient relationships and is the responsibility of all employees. Teamwork is the norm and all employees will be held accountable to work as effective team members. Assist in patient care by providing services such as patient transport, chart review, record maintenance and relaying messages. (Does not provide patient care.) In addition, functions in supply aid and/or sterilization capacity. Maintain a safe work area and ensure that it is adequately stocked, cleaned and organized. Implement sterilizing procedures to support infection control and OSHA standards.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Perform functions that assist with patient care as requested.
a. Attention is given to patient safety.
b. Tasks are completed in a timely manner.
c. Proper body mechanics are used at all times.
d. Seek medical and/or nursing assistance when encountering an acutely ill patient or patient with a changing condition.
e. Patients and their records are handled competently in a confidential and appropriate manner per GHI policies.
f. CPR certificate maintained.
2. Cleaning and sterilizing procedures support infection control and OSHA standards.
a. Instruments and equipment are prepared and sterilized according to procedure.
b. Complete scheduled cleaning requirements for the designated work areas. Document completion of work to comply with infection control and OSHA standards
c. Implement other infection control procedures as needed.
d. Adheres to protective clothing requirements.
3. Clinic supplies are adequately stocked and well organized.
a. Department inventory requests are processed and delivered in a timely manner.
b. Responsible for supply requisitioning according to clinic procedures.
c. When receiving supplies, equipment and other authorized deliveries, check merchandise against packing slip and report all damages and discrepancies.
d. Prepare returns for shipment with all appropriate documentation.
e. All designated areas are stocked adequately. Expiration dates are routinely checked. Outdated supplies are removed and/or replaced.
4. All equipment is properly maintained and adequate records are kept.
a. An inventory of instruments and equipment is kept current.
b. Instruments and equipment are calibrated as needed and maintained in proper working order. All maintenance is documented.
5. All responsibilities are carried out in support of clinic operations and support services.
a. There is evidence of positive teamwork with all disciplines
b. All interactions reflect positive customer service
c. Problems are identified and reported to appropriate persons. Follow-up is consistent.
d. Keep apprised of information presented at staff meetings and in-services.
6. Other tasks are correctly performed as delegated by Care Delivery Supervisor or designee.
