Summary
The Sr Logistics Specialist will perform activities that ensure efficient transportation of Soybean and Canola oil products from origin to destination within CHS Food Grade Tanker Transportation network. We seek a transportation/logistics professional who will participate in identifying and selecting the most appropriate and cost-effective bulk tank truck transportation to serve our customers in the Refined/Crude Soybean/Canola Oil Industry.
This position will also provide internal stakeholders with accurate and market-based freight pricing and ensure that accurate freight rates are loaded into appropriate rating systems. Additionally, this role will build a firm understanding of freight markets within the position's scope of responsibility and use this understanding to communicate market insights, context, and knowledge to stakeholders within CHS. Likewise, the Sr Logistics Specialist will work to improve organizational understanding of customer and plant specific shipping requirements across the bulk tank truck transportation network and assist in effectively managing to these requirements and communicating them to our bulk tank truck carriers.
Responsibilities
- Support CHS’s Enterprise Transportation Carrier Management Strategy through rate negotiations, relationship management, carrier selection and capacity management
- Build strong relationships with our bulk tank truck carriers in the Food Grade Tanker Truck market to ensure great service, competitive rates, and truck capacity in meeting our customers’ expectations.
- Manage daily RBD and Crude Oil truck tenders to carriers for customer delivery, build long term relationships and expedite the transportation of products, troubleshooting as needed.
- Benchmark carrier rates, service, and capacity in the Food Grade bulk tank truck carrier industry
- Provide periodic bulk tank truck market updates and analysis for CHS enterprise transportation management and commercial teams
- Source new food grade bulk tank truck carriers to support CHS growth plans and ensure competitive rates, capacity and high service levels
- Develop strong relationships with our internal Sales team, S&OE teams, Accounting and Customer Service personal to enhance our service to customers and CHS businesses.
- Recommend, and implement continuous improvement opportunities that result in cost savings, improved service, and process efficiencies
- Perform cost analysis of truck carrier freight spend data, shipment volumes and FSC data to drive better results for CHS and our customers.
- Ensure strong working relationships with our bulk truck carrier partners, while holding them accountable for service performance using scorecard KPI’s and conduct semiannual carrier business review meetings.
- Provide guidance to less experienced transportation/logistics team members.
- Identify and resolve service issues utilizing root cause analysis and corrective actions to improve service to our customers and CHS.
- Maintain and promote a strong safety culture and follow all safety policies, procedures, and regulations. Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions.
- Perform other responsibilities as needed or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications (required)
- High School diploma or GED
- 4+ years of experience in Supply Chain and Procurement and/or Transportation and Logistics
Additional Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree preferred in Business, Economics, Logistics, Operations or Supply Chain Management, or related field.
- Extensive knowledge of truck transportation/logistics processes, commodity markets, and contractual terms
- 5+ years of experience in transportation/truck logistics, supply chain or transportation procurement.
- Strong negotiation and collaboration skill
- Strong analytical skills with ability to draw conclusions based on data
- Strong organizational, decision making, computer, and communication skills, both written and verbal
