The Collins Aerospace Mission Systems Command & Control, Communications, Cyber, Intelligence, & Autonomy (C4IA) engineering team is seeking a Principal MCAD Designer to join a multi-disciplined engineering team.  In this position, the candidate will be responsible for modeling technical solutions to a wide range of complex problems related to the mechanical design and packaging of various types of electronic chassis and module assemblies. Familiarity with CREO/ProEngineer or a similar CAD tool and knowledge of GD&T drawing standards are strongly recommended.

What You Will Do:

  • Perform duties of Mechanical Computer-Aided Design (MCAD), responsible for creation of complex CAD models and drawings.  

  • Work closely with Mechanical Engineers (ME), Electrical Engineers (EE), and other team members to develop and document solutions to complex requirements. 

  • The position will require the regular use of ingenuity and innovation and the ability to work in a team environment to develop components and subassemblies of electronic systems. 

  • Perform a wide variety of tasks in support of the engineering and manufacturing organizations by using CAD systems and enterprise data management tools to prepare mechanical design layouts, detail and assembly drawings, and related documentation in conformance to appropriate program and military specifications.

  • Have the ability to successfully learn new skills and assume new responsibilities

  • Manage multiple tasks concurrently

  • Be capable of building relationships with internal customers, understanding their program needs and challenges, and effectively communicating an approach to solving their problems

  • Have excellent communication skills - both written and verbal

  • Be a team player with a high level of initiative and ability to work in an environment of rapidly changing priorities

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience.

  • Solid 3D CAD Modeling skills (preferably CREO).

  • Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing, ASME Y14.5 and Engineering Drawing Practices, ASME Y14.100.

  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance. This position will require the ability to access US only data systems.

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Solid CREO (formerly Pro/E) knowledge including Cabling, Sheet metal, and Assembly

  • Functional understanding of PTC Windchill or other Product Data Management (PDM) tools, particularly for CAD files

  • Electronic packaging experience

  • Knowledge of materials and processes used in manufacture of electronic printed circuit boards (PCB) and circuit card assemblies (CCA)

  • Experience creating documentation needed to support design, manufacturing, and production

  • Strong leadership abilities

  • Ability to lead a CAD design activity including leading a small team to achieve desired results

  • Knowledge of Configuration Management principals

  • Knowledge of Engineering Drafting and Industry Standards

  • Knowledge of metal fabrication, machining, casting, and manufacturing processes

  • Work with Export / Import personnel to ensure requirements are met for Engineering documentation

  • Active DoD Secret security clearance
