Moog is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Software Development Team.  You will be responsible for creating and executing flight software solutions that will fly on mission-critical military aircraft. Reporting to an Engineering Manager, you can choose a 9/80 work schedule with a hybrid work option (minimum 3 days/week in the office) in Torrance, CA.

Moog’s Military Aircraft Group is a global leader in designing primary and secondary flight control actuation systems (FCAS) for military aircraft. We design and integrate FCAS systems for cutting edge aircraft like the F-35 Lightning II and the Bell MV-75 next generation tiltrotor Aircraft. This position requires access to United States export-controlled information.

This position may require obtaining a U.S. government security clearance; this clearance requires U.S. citizenship.

As a Sr. Software Engineer, you will:

  • Design and implement software and requirements for use in real-time embedded aircraft control systems

  • Perform systems and software integration and high and low level verification activities using real and simulated hardware

  • Maintain support of software in its target environment

  • Develop maintainable computer interfaces to electrical and mechanical systems, including hardware drivers and communication protocols.  

  • Select instrumentation for such systems with an understanding of the appropriate accuracy to meet functional requirements.

  • Comply with flight or safety critical processes such as DO-178C Level A or SAE ARP4754A or military aircraft equivalent

  • Stay up-to-date on advances in technology and processes for continuous improvement of accuracy, reliability, and cost.

  • Domestic travel may be required as needed (up to 5%)

To be considered for the role, here’s what you’ll need to bring with you:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or other technical discipline, preferably Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or similar

  • 8+ years of software development work experience

  • OR Master’s Degree in Engineering with 6+ years of software development work experience

  • Experience programming in C or C++

It would be great if you also had:

  • Experience with flight or safety critical processes such as DO-178C Level A or SAE ARP4754A or military aircraft equivalent

  • Experience leading a team through various phases of a software program while controlling project costs, schedule, scope, and risks

  • Development experience in Python, dSPACE, Simulink environments

  • Experience with cyber security in an aircraft environment (like secure boot, encryption, Trusted Platform Module, etc.)

  • Experience in the aerospace/defense industry

  • Experience leading and organizing engineering teams, while maintaining organization communications

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate well with all levels of the organization and have experience working with external constituencies

  • Demonstrated ability to understand and convey complex regulations/procedures

  • Mechanical and/or electrical engineering knowledge in a hands-on environment
