The Center for the Study of Adolescent Risk and Resilience (C-StARR) at Duke University, a National Institute on Drug Abuse Core Center of Excellence, supports cutting-edge science on self-regulation during late adolescence and emerging adulthood. In addition to informing relevant prevention programs, practices, and policies, the C-StARR is committed to the mentorship and training of the next generation of scientists studying the development of self-regulation across the adolescent years and the effects of deficits and skills at self-regulation on consequential outcomes. Of particular interest in the current funding cycle are the role of mobile device use in adolescent health and well-being and the antecedents and consequences of e-cigarette use by adolescents and emerging adults.

This position performs a variety of roles related to participant recruitment and retention, data collection, data management and documentation, and support of data access and analysis for projects supported by the C-StARR. The person in this position will work directly with project teams, facilitating collaborative access to resources within the Center related to data collection, storage, and access. The position supervises Research Technicians in the Contextual Data Acquisition and Analysis Core. This position reports to the Associate Director of the Core.

This is a full time, grant funded position, eligible for all Duke benefits (https://hr.duke.edu/benefits) with an initial appointment of one year with the possibility of renewal, dependent on funding and performance.

Main responsibilities:

(25%) Manage and coordinate all aspects of participant recruitment: recruitment strategies, contact information database, interviewer hiring, interviewer training, expenses including participant compensation, participation tracking/status updates, and sample reports.
(10%) Coordinate and develop training and recruitment materials, including materials for project management (e.g., participant FAQ documents).
(15%) Supervise research support staff (research assistants, work-study students) in recruiting efforts.
(15%) Coordinate data collection in collaboration with project teams and other Core staff, including preparation of study materials in Qualtrics, piloting surveys, distribution of surveys via email and text messages.
(15%) Manage and coordinate all aspects of participant compensation, including developing and maintaining participation tracking spreadsheet, paying participants, and generating compensation reports to provide to the Department and Employee Travel & Reimbursement.
(15%) Manage all participant inquiries about Center studies, including regular email and phone communication with participants and families, reconciling participant payments, and forwarding inquiries to other Center staff as needed.
(5%) Assist with preparation of annual reports to NIDA.

The Data Manager will also have opportunities to participate in the Center’s ongoing writing group and contribute to research publications resulting from Center research studies.
