SUMMARY:  

Under direct supervision, fills routine dosage orders and prepackaged pharmaceuticals. Counts, packages, and labels unit doses for inspection by pharmacist and fills routine orders for non-prescription pharmaceuticals. Assists pharmacist in the dispensing of prescriptions and performs a range of staff support functions/

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Pharmacy Responsibilities:

• Work under the provisions of a technician utilization plan approved by the board of pharmacy
• Adhere to pharmacy state and federal laws and regulations
• Complete and demonstrate competency of training checklist documents within 6 months of hire 
• To provide quality support duties in the Pharmacy.

Safety:

Obeys safety rules of St. John’s United

Identifies, reports, and/or corrects obvious safety hazards

Attends mandatory safety in-services

Utilizes proper body mechanics when lifting stock

Employee Responsibilities:

• Be registered with the Montana Board of Pharmacy as a Technician-in-Training prior to the first day of employment in the pharmacy
• Receive certification from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB), National Healthcareer Association (ExCPT), or other board-approved certifying entity within Montana Board of Pharmacy license expiration 
• Perform all job duties of a pharmacy technician, including, but not limited to: inventory management, prescription processing, medication packaging and labeling, non-sterile compounding, maintain pharmacy records, assist customers and practitioners, and assist the pharmacist at all times

Other:

• Perform other duties as assigned by the pharmacist and/or supervisor.
• Supports the growth and actively engages in Eden Alternative tasks.
• Follows policy and procedures on annual TB testing.
• Follows policy and procedures on annual influenza vaccinations.
• Attends all mandatory in-services
• Works under the general supervision of the Pharmacists 
• Successfully completes orientation and pharmacy departmental training requirements
• Successfully completes all assigned educations and competencies

Requirements

REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum Requirements:

High school diploma or GED required. Must be at least 18 years old and be in good standing with the Office of Inspector General.   

Knowledge, skills, and abilities required:  

• Knowledge and skills acquired through completion of high school.
• Must be eligible for certification as a Pharmacy Technician certification process.   
• Be able to communicate and interact effectively in a professional manner.
• Must be computer literate with good word processing skills.
• Ability to understand written and verbal communication.
• Ability to work independently.
• Ability to interact effectively and professionally with residents, family members, medical personnel, and coworkers.
• Ability to sort, check, and verify numbers.
• Clerical, word processing, and other general computer skills.
• Ability to understand and follow safety policies and procedures.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires moderate physical work, including lifting up to 25 pounds on a regular basis, and up to 30 pounds occasionally, bending, standing, and reaching.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Work involves minimal exposure to hazards, bloodborne pathogens, or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions 
• Normal health care environment
• Work involves exposure to plants and animals within the environment
