Cyber Third Party Risk Consultant, Principal Associate

Capital One has a team of Information Security specialists who not only focus on security, but are relationship experts, negotiation champions, and resolve complex information security issues for suppliers. The Cyber Third Party Risk program defines the framework and conducts the assessments which enable the business to protect sensitive information, physical assets, and confirms the Third Parties’ ability to provide continual services. The associate in this role will partner with a community of stakeholders to ensure third party engagements receive the necessary Cyber due diligence and contractual oversight to adequately protect Capital One data. You will partner with the Line of Business, Third Party Managers, and various cyber teams to provide sound risk consulting and influence business decisions that reduce or eliminate risk to Capital One. You are pragmatic and practical in your understanding of risk and security, but also willing to know when to pull in experts and escalate. You will challenge and innovate within your team to drive process improvements to elevate program efficiency.

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Consult with internal Third Party Managers and external third parties to understand external third party engagements and generate applicable Cyber intent-based contract language to address risk factors

  • Support direct communications and conversations with external third parties to negotiate Cyber contract language, which frequently includes clarifying the intent of Cyber control requirements and recommending revisions in alignment with current risk tolerance

  • Evaluate and document a summary of risk exposure or deviation summary resulting from contemplated (or agreed to) contract deviations 

  • Establish appropriate risk ratings for contract deviations, as well as overall contract risk, based on any compensating controls and residual risk of the external third party

  • Maintain a thorough understanding of security and operational controls, including intent and associated contract language, applicable to external third parties

  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the overall Third Party Risk program to include all teams, functions, and responsibilities

  • Consult and partner with the broader Cyber and Third Party Risk team to drive consistent program delivery and develop enhancements, where appropriate

  • Engage frequently with internal Third Party Managers, Contract Managers, and others who own, or are stakeholders of, external third party relationships to:

    • Provide ongoing education to the internal customers of the Cyber Third Party Risk program

    • Ensure internal customers maintain compliance with the Cyber Third Party Risk program

  • Establish effective working relationships with key stakeholders 

  • Work with key stakeholders to anticipate their objectives and needs to better serve the line of business

  • Proactively identify information security risk and partner with key stakeholders to reduce or eliminate risk

  • Coordinate and execute proactive consulting to both internal and external teams as it relates to third party information security risk

  • Support business related projects and initiatives and influence customers to make solid business decisions 

  • Provide regular updates to executive leadership with your line of business on the overall Cyber Third Party Risk program health and risk environment

  • Escalate and manage cyber security risk

  • Provide ad hoc support on special departmental goals, objectives, and initiatives

 

The Associate should be able to:

  • Demonstrate a strong ability to analyze information and data 

  • Quickly analyze external third party engagement details to ensure the delivery of appropriate, intent based contract language 

  • Equate information security, business continuity, and operational controls with business risk 

  • Develop and communicate quality recommendations to negotiation teams

  • Work with diverse contacts throughout the world to achieve results 

  • Demonstrate strong negotiation skills
