The Operations & Facilities Management Department at Washington University School of Medicine is committed to delivering a comprehensive range of services to support the medical campus.We oversee maintenance and operations for 65 buildings, covering more than 10.1 million gross square feet of space. This includes the 11-story, 609,000-square-foot neuroscience research building, which houses one of the world’s highest concentrations of neuroscientists. Our responsibilities include operational and administrative support, strategic planning, and project management.
Furthermore, as the School of Medicine continues to expand its presence both on and off campus in areas such as teaching, clinical care, and research, our team remains instrumental in ensuring the seamless delivery of clinical care, advancing research initiatives, and facilitating educational endeavors.
Responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the environmental services department at Washington University School of Medicine (WUSM), ensuring a clean, safe, and sanitary environment for all patients, staff, and visitors. Manages staff, develops and implements policies and procedures, and ensures compliance with all regulatory standards. Works closely with other departments to support the organization's overall mission and goals and meet the campus's current and future needs.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Assists the Director in planning, organizing, and directing the operations of the Environmental Services department.
- Supervises and manages environmental services staff, including hiring, training, scheduling, and performance evaluations.
- Fosters a positive work environment and promotes a culture of teamwork and excellence.
- Develops and implements training programs for environmental services staff.
- Ensures staff are knowledgeable about infection control practices and safety protocols.
- Promoted continuous learning and professional development opportunities for staff.
- Ensures all facility areas are cleaned and maintained according to established standards.
- Oversees the proper handling and disposal of hazardous and biomedical waste.
- Coordinates pest control measures and ensures a pest-free environment.
- Assists in the development and management of the departmental budget.
- Monitors inventory levels and ensures the efficient use of supplies and equipment.
- Evaluates and recommends new cleaning products and technologies to improve efficiency, sustainability, and effectiveness.
- Ensures compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations related to environmental services.
- Develops and implements best practices and procedures to maintain high cleanliness and safety standards.
- Conducts regular inspections and audits to ensure adherence to quality standards and identify areas for improvement.
- Develops and tracks Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- Works closely with other departments to coordinate environmental services activities and support overall facility operations.
- Communicates effectively with staff, management, and external vendors.
- Addresses and resolves any environmental services-related issues or concerns promptly and professionally.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
