JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for delivery and oversight of all areas of grounds maintenance and grounds personnel throughout the District. Provide quality control of all aspects of grounds department activities at sites throughout the District as assigned. Assignments include Field Equipment, High Schools, Irrigation, and Landscape.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following tasks describe the basic functions of the job and represent the type of work performed. They do not constitute an exhaustive list of the duties and responsibilities performed on the job. The following frequencies and percentage of time spent are approximations only and are subject to flexibility dependent on organizational needs.

• Assists Grounds Manager in coordination and delivery of landscape and ground maintenance across specified portions of the District.  This includes but is not limited to athletic field preparations and maintenance, development of landscape, and tree maintenance and management through TreeKeeper software. Cleans stadiums after games and events (sweeping and grooming of fields, removes trash, shovels snow in stands, etc.). Sweeps parking lots as needed through manual or mechanical means. Cleans drains and curb inlets. Removes trash from external bins around perimeter and replaces liners at all high school and middle school campuses. Installs or removes benches and trash cans as needed. [Daily, 20%]
• Provides quality control of all aspects of grounds department activities at sites throughout a specified portion of the District. Assists in developing and implementing safety rules and regulations. Orders supplies and parts for Crew Leaders, weed control specialists and athletic field specialist. [Daily, 20%]
• Supervises the repair of broken laterals and main lines for irrigation, including poly, PVC, and copper. [Daily, 5%]
• Trains, supports, coaches and supervises employees to ensure success. Tracks activity through daily work logs. Completes evaluations and disciplinary action for assigned personnel. [Daily, 5%]
• Mows, prunes, trims, edges, sprays herbicide for weed control, operates equipment and fills in to manage crews as needed. [Daily, 5%]
• Oversees necessary maintenance on athletic fields. Mows, prunes, repairs fences, trims, edges, sprays chemicals for weed control and fills in to run crews as needed. [Daily, 5%]
• Assists with procurement of equipment and services, including securing quotes, working with the Purchasing Department, and submitting quotes for purchase orders. [Daily, 2%]
• Repairs track surface and jump pit runways. Completes necessary painting for field layouts for fall and spring sports. Installs rubbers and base sleeves for baseball and softball. [Daily, 2%]
• Must be available for on call snow removal and snow removal with loader as assigned. May include sanding.  On call for irrigation and after hours calls from ADs, coaches and contractors. [Monthly, 20%]
• Assists in coordinating, overseeing and ensuring completion of projects involving landscape construction, grounds maintenance, and fertilization.  Installs new irrigation controls with 120 power. Unhooks and re-hooks high voltage pumps 208/480 as well as VFD controllers. Installs Cat 5 cables to irrigation controllers and completes mobile underground installs. Replaces main valves on water lines. [Quarterly, 5%]
• Repairs and maintains tools, equipment and the shop (i.e. sharpens blades, reports vehicles/trailers to transportation for inspection, etc. Test, repair & service of pumps (3/4-30 HP) and backflow devices. [Quarterly, 5%]
• Schedules pest control (snakes, wasps, prairie dogs, skunks, raccoons, etc.). [Quarterly, 1%]
• Perform other related duties as assigned or requested. [Daily, 5%]
